Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Nice death and roll..........2005-03-13

Not death...but a good combo of death and metal. Maybe death and roll? Good stuff though. I'd place this in the same categorie as latter Grave and Dismember, A good ear for sure.

5 out of 5 stars Grrrrrrrriinnd!!!.......1999-02-16

I'll still call it death metal but it's not death metal in the strictest sense. This outing from Gorefest is similar in style to the last album, "Erase", which was a bit slower for Gorefest and had a similar feel to Crowbar. There is a little more variety on Soul Survivor then there was on Erase, granted Soul survivor can get a little repetitive at times, but there are sections just completely rock. The third song stands out due to it's extremely slow pace and the fact that it completely kicks ass, it's worth owning the album just for that song. Even the hidden instrumental track on this album is good! The production for this album was also of notable quality thus giving the music and vocals a great sound. The vocals are fairly deep and sound like the singer constantly has phlegm bubbling in the back of his throat. I suppose if you are an opera singer thats a bad thing but it comes across as pretty cool for a death metal album. Overall, it's a quality album and if you like the slower side of death metal with a unique approach to the song writing then this is worth some of your time.

5 out of 5 stars Metal at it's best.......1998-10-23

This masterpiece is not only the best of Gorefest, but one of the best Heavy Metal records i've heard 'till now. From the heavyness of Jan-Chris' voice to the amazing and melodic, though heavy, riffs of the two guitars, with amazing solos from both of them. Pay attencion to the evolution from the prior (also very good) Erase. If Death Metal is your stuff, don't loose it.
