Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The under rated band strikes again!.......2003-02-03

Thin Lizzy are not only the worlds most under rated band, they are also hard to put in a certain catagory. Thin Lizzy may be considered a heavy metal band but they're are much more than that.

"Chinatown" is the bands next best album ever (best is "Jailbreak"), and also their last great release. On this one Lizzy gives us a bunch of top quality songs. The opening track "We will be strong" points out the direction very clearly and Lynott & the boys deliver fast, groovy rockers with the typical Lizzy twin-guitar.

If you're looking for good melodic hard rock without pathetic lyrics I think you'll find Thin Lizzy to be a very good choice. ... It wasn't till "Fighting" (1975) Thin Lizzy found their characteristic sound. The albums before shows not only lack of musical direction but also a lack in good songwriting.

4 out of 5 stars You don't come back from CHINATOWN.......2000-08-13

It is my opinion that Thin Lizzy is the most under-rated band in the history of rock and roll. And "Chinatown" is another chapter in the book of Lizzy. This is another hard rocker in the vein of "Black Rose". Snowy White partners Gorham here. "We will be strong" starts the album off in a good hard rock style. Though it still sounds a little somber. The fast pace of "Sweetheart" will get your blood pumping. Check out the guitar harmonies in this one. "Sugar Blues" defines the word 'fun' here. It's like hard rock meets swing style. You get caught up in to it immediately. "Killer on the Loose" is probably the heaviest song they had ever recorded up to that point. Also, another fan favorite. "having a good Time" is the party song, and "Genocide" would be the political protest song. Both rocking tunes of course, along with the closer "Hey You". One ballad in all of the nine tracks. "Didn't I" is a beautiful track led by Lynott's soulful voice. All in all, this another great album. Owning this album should be a law!

4 out of 5 stars This is the Thin Lizzy albulm to own.......1999-11-02

Before I recentley purchased this CD it had been about 15 years since I last heard it. How did I survive without it for so long? And why the hell hasn't this been available in the US? My favorite Thin Lizzy albulm. Boy do I miss Phil Lynott. His enouciation, inflection, bass playing, and believability in what he's singing about come through on this record more than any other in my opinion. Snowey White, and Scott Graham, while without Van Halen type dexterity, mesh into a tight unit, more often than not playing the same notes simoultaneously, rather than dueling each other...and it works! Downey, on drums is hypnotic, with at least 4 tunes you can't help but tap your feet. Throw in some great hooks,Lynott's chops, and the bands overall tighness, and you have a helluva record. The Lynott compositions are by far the strongest. "We will be Strong", "Sweetheart", and "Killer on the Loose" are the best cuts on the record, NONE of which were included on the Greatest hits compilation ( who compiled that?) "Chinatown" (which was included) is another great tune. The most fun is "Having a Good Time" in which you can really feel Lynott enjoying himself. For the uninitiated who have only heard "Jailbreak" and the "Boys are back in town" this is the record to get!

5 out of 5 stars EXTRA EXTRA! thin lizzy rolls over chinatown!.......1999-06-29

this is thin lizzys best album! SWEETHEART, is a real trippy song with synthesizer. CHINATOWN really hits hard. the best song is KILLER ON THE LOOSE, that song makes me want to drive 185 mph. DIDNT I is a great romantic tune also. if you want hard thin lizzy, thenn buy this album, and if you dont like the album then get a hold of me and i will talk some sense in you!
