Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Arguably GNR's only great album... .......2007-03-18

...and what an album it is. Slash's guitar work is the main highlight here. Real sleazy, lots of pinch harmonics, etc.. They were the Rolling Stones of hard rock, if you will. But something happened after this album: they started overdoing the ballads. Now, on this album, there is only one ballad, unless you consider "I Think About You" to be a ballad. You know which one I'm talking about: Sweet Child of Mine. Why does everyone continue to praise this song? It's arguable that having such a song was a necessary evil at the time, because brainless MTV viewers loved sappy hair-metal ballads, and it was because of the song that AFD became such a popular album. But let's see the song for what it is today: dated and corny. Unfortunately, they took their corny ballads one step further on their next MAJOR albums: UYI 1 and 2.

5 out of 5 stars Guns N Roses can rock my SOX!!.......2007-03-16

Man! Isn't this brilliant... I just got back into GNR and realized that their music has always rocked hard...they were always better than thrash metal bands, although Metallica were great too. Appetite For Destruction is a great HAIR METAL album which contains such classics 'Welcome To The Jungle,' 'Sweet Child O Mine. Paradise City can suck my left. Get this with greatest hits by them. Remember than U2 and Queen suck big time and Foreigner, GNR, Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Foghat, and Metallica all rock!

5 out of 5 stars Arguably The Best Metal/Hard Rock Album Ever.......2007-03-16

Yep, that's a pretty strong statement, but it's true. When Guns N' Roses released "Appetite For Destruction," they unleashed one of the greatest albums of all time. Every single song on this album is a classic. It's a fusion of hard rock, punk, blues, and straight-up heavy metal. It's one of the few albums that got everything right. There's absolutely no filler. Axl and company managed to make an album that reflected its demographic to perfection. The entire album is about living at full speed and often slipping off of the tracks. Songs like "Mr. Brownstone" show just how bad things can be for an addict. "Welcome To The Jungle" reflects how quickly one can get tangled into drugs. Heck, even the token ballad, "Sweet Child O'Mine," rocks and it has one of the greatest openings of any song in rock history in my opinion. Other highlights include the wonderful "Paradise City," "Rocket Queen," and the wonderfully raunchy "Anything Goes."

If you consider yourself a rock authority, you must have this album. It's a definite classic and the pinnacle of hard rock during the last two decades.

Of course, if you're around my age (thirty), this album also serves as a wonderful flashback. I remember that my parents wouldn't let me get this album due to the "F" word that is used loosely and frequently throughout. Not to be hindered in my desire to own it, I had one of my buddies get it for me through one of the CD/Cassette clubs back then. I hid and cherished my copy and still own my original cassette. I've long since upgraded to the CD, but I still have a softspot for that old tape. (Sorry folks, just an oldster remembering the past.)

Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars Truly satifies ones Appetite!!!.......2007-03-15

One day I was watching VH1's top 100 songs of the 1980's, and a song came on. It said "Welcome to the Jungle" by Guns n' Roses. Now, I was maybe 12 or 13 at the time and I was stuck in the whole rap and hip-hop craze that has taken over society. But something about this song caught my ear and kept me glued!

I went online and researched all I could about this band! I went out and bought "Appetite for Destruction" the very next day! I must say, this song alone has changed my whole essence of music. Once a lover of the rap and hip-hop world, this band has helped me cross over into anything 80's!!!! I am now turning 21 in the coming months and GnR remains my favorite band of all time! I was even fortunate enough to see them live this past November!!!!

So, what about the album?? This album defined the 1980's as it was. Hard hitting, no holds barred, raw, and dirty! Now, I do like a lot of the glam metal stuff from the 80's as well, but GnR brought a whole new attitude with the release of this album! From the opening alone (which is a killer way to open a concert!) to the very last note, this album transcends anything that you will ever hear!!!! There are constant guitar riffs that will leave you wide-eyed and astounded; and the vocal range of one mister Axl Rose cannot be matched!

Unless you go and buy this album as soon as possible, you will not understand the true magic that it posesses! This is an album that absolutley EVERYONE must own, and I whole-heartedly recommend it!

Best tracks: Every single one!

5 out of 5 stars Music that should by owned by everyone!........2007-03-08

Guns 'N' Roses has made one of the best debuts in rock music history and considering the time this was released in 1987 when pop and hair metal was at its most ridicolous with bands like Poison and the awful Twisted Sister, I mean don't get me wrong there were a few 80's bands that I really like for example Def Leppard, Van Halen, Motely Crue, Skid Row but none of those bands albums could compare to the greatness that was Appetite for destruction.

G'N'R managed to surpass all of that and make an aggressive and hard hitting rock album that takes no prisoners, Axl Rose sounds at his best and is one of the greatest rock singers of all time despite his egotistical behavior which I thought was great cause alot of rock musicians are usualy a bunch of pansies.

Everytime I listen to this it never seems to be tiring or old, it sounds so refreshing especially nowadays with the truly horrendous and pathetic music scene. Starting of with the song Welcome to the jungle it is imediattely known that the gunners have stood out among the other glam/hair metal bands, they have an Aerosmith influence which is apparent only its alot heavier but also catchy at the same time. This original lineup of Axl Rose (lead vocalist), Slash (lead rhthym guitar), Duff Mckagen (bass guitar), Izzy Stradlin (lead guitar) and Steven Adler (drums) is the proper lineup and seemed like everything was in right order. Welcome to the jungle is the turning point for 80's rock anthems, the jungle being a metaphor of the streets of Los Angeles near Hollywood where G'N'R started their band and how difficult it was for them to struggle with poverty, drugs, sex etc. the second song Its so easy which is my personal favorite has a bluesy and metallic sound to it, then theres Night train continues with the sleaze lol if you've read the lyrics then you probably know what I'm talking about.

Out ta get me is a tale about paranoia it also deals with anger, hatred and fear, then we get to one of the best songs of all time which is Mr. Brownstone with great riffs courtesy of Slash and Izzy with aditional drumming done by Axl on percussion this song kicks serious a** and makes me sing along with Axl. Paradise city is another great hit single that everyone has heard so I'm not going to explain it and the rest of the songs like the ballad Sweet child of mine with its famous guitar intro and solo done in the middle of the song that showcases Slash's talent was absolutely phenomenal and great another fav along with Rocket queen and Think about you.
This album is flawless and has no bad songs in it other than Anything goes which was slightly average, so there you go a truly remarkable debut album with great lyrics and excellent musicianship what else can I say but if you don't have this then what are you waiting for GET THIS NOW!
