5 out of 5 stars The Rebirth Of Thrash Masters.......2007-02-26

I had grown up listening to all of the old Testament material, up through "Practice What You Preach" and "Souls Of Black", but had pretty much fallen out of touch with this band (which I always considered the most talented and intelligent of the Bay-area thrash bands), so this album was a surprise to me, and is quickly becoming one of my current favorites...

This was the first album without guitarist Alex Skolnick and the first to feature James Murphy of Death fame, and it is certainly the heaviest album attempted by this band up until this point. This album also saw Testament begin to experiment with a near death-metal vocal style, which actually works rather well with the new, heavier, more intense material. My concerns about Skolnick's departure were ill-founded; guitarists Murphy and Peterson shred all over this disc; some of the solo-trade-offs on this album are just unreal. Very, very cool style combining elements of death, thrash, and even a bit of prog-metal with some great guitar playing and some surprising twists and turns, which add an unexpected element at times (track 9, "Urutsukidoji", is a sort of instrumental fusion-metal tribute to the bizarre Japanese hentai anime of the same name; and even features foreign-language clips from the series...just plain weird)....this is much better than 90 percent of the newer metal bands out these days. Check it out!

5 out of 5 stars Testament......Low.... A great thrash/metal album........2007-02-04

I first read about this album from advertisements, reviews, and articles in metal magazines. I first heard Low when my friend was just finishing washing his car in his car stereo system in Oct.'94 at a tennis center workshed of where we both worked at the time. From hearing Testament's new album Low I was blown away from the intensity and continious crisp new vibe that this album brought from my friend's car speakers. I borrowed Low fom him ,but after that I bought my own CD and loved it and still do. Low is such a refreshing breathe of air compared to the slow and dull sounding The Ritual, which came out in '92. The Ritual is a good album and it is the last album with Alex Skolnick, but it is no comparison to the fresh, fast, mature, full of life, very well written, and heavy album of Low. On Low guitarist James Murphy and drummer John Tempesta join forces with awesome Eric Peterson,Chuck Billy, and Greg Christian. And I will tell you James Murphy is awesome guitarist and brings in new/fresh shred sound to Testament. The well travelled thunder-god John Tempesta adds SO MUCH LIFE into the drums on this album and yes it is new/fresh sound that they definitely needed after the boring drumming of Louie Clemente on The Ritual. Let me tell you Chuck Billy on Low sounds VERY INTENSE and AWESOME! On here I never heard such new/intense sound from Testament EVER as I heard on Low!!!! All songs on here are incredible, with the exception of the instrumentals Urotsukidoji (strange) and Last Call (boring), but they are still good songs though. The opening track Low and Legions(In Hiding),Shades of War,P.C. and all the rest are new tasty incredible songs on here. Trail of Tears a tribute to the Indians is an epic song and all and all Testament's Low is an EPIC MASTERPIECE. This is a must for metal fans to add to your collection.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2006-11-10

Testament is the most awesome band on the planet. You have to checkout "The Gathering" and "The Ritual" CDs.

5 out of 5 stars Very good album.......2006-04-06

This is my first Testament album, although I have downloaded some of their earlier material. I am very pleased with this album, it has great lyrics, great drums, and amazing guitars.

5 star tracks:
Low- great everything
Trail of Tears- slower, but has a different sound, good change of pace
Chasing Fear- my first Testament song, remains one of my favorites

1-2 star song:
Urotsukidoji- annoying song, I usually skip it
Last Call- very average

Other than those five we have a ton of solid tracks, well worth listening to time and time again. This is a shorter album, at 47 minutes long, but it has great sound quality and a lot of great talent put to the best use possible.

5 out of 5 stars First experiment with the DM sound goes good..........2006-01-14

When Alex Skolnick left after the not-so-well-taken The Ritual, everyone thought Testament was done, not so, James Murphy joins on this album, I do miss the shredding of Skolnick, but Murphy can shred also, this is a fine mix of Thrash and Death, Chuck Billy really brings out the growl on this one, he would more on the follow up, Demonic, I'm a fan of all Testament releases, this one achieves the old sound, as well as the future sound, in better words, the transition album, Testament prove they can be DMish, as well as being the legendary Thrash band they are, where as The Ritual was slow, this is faster, the production is nice, Billy proves more on this album, what a great vocalist he is, can do the melodic ones, the pissed off ones, the DM ones, truely amazing.

Low 5/6, A very strong start to the album, catchy riffs, nice tempo changes

Legions (In Hiding) 5/4, Not quite as strong as Low, but still a nice track, nice riffing and soloing here

Hail Mary 5/6, One of the best songs on the album, it's very catchy

Trail Of Tears 5/6, Testament return with yet another ballad, infact, this is the best one, right up there with The Legacy off Souls of Black

Shades of War 5/5, A nice strong track, it's different

P.C 5/5, It's short, but nothing short of greatness

Dog Faced Gods 5/6, Another one of the best songs on the album, starts out wicked DMish, then moves into a more thrash stance

All I Could Bleed 5/5, Nice and catchy, nice solo

Urotsukidoji 5/1, Sorry, I'm not much of an instrumental fan

Chasing Fear 5/4, Stands with Legions (In Hiding) doesn't hold the impact that the rest do, but still manages to be great

Ride 5/5, just rules

Last Call, 5/0, not an instrumental fan
