Customer Reviews:
Secures Their Place in Metal.......2006-03-15
After proving themselves with their superb sophmore record 'The Impossibility of Reason' Chimaira lost their drummer Andols Herrick and went through one more before they hired the man they had on this album (as of early 2006 Herrick is back). This record shows excellent growth in their song writing and preformances. All most all the songs on this record are lengthy. They all feature blistering guitar solos and intense riffing. Mark Hunter's vocals are still extreme and raspy, his messages still full of rage. The electronics are more ear-candy than they have been in the past, adding color to the songs rather than dominating them. Kevin Talley, the drummer on this record displays just how fast and just how long he can work the bass drum pedals, and in songs like 'Nothing Remains' and 'Everything You Love' he provides solid examples. 'Salvation' is the only song where clearly sung vocals are present. The rest of the album is solid shouting. Chimaira is an excellent example of a band deciding to take back metal from some of the softer, barely hard rock bands that are being passed off as metal today. If you do not own this album you should.
