5 out of 5 stars I am the King of my Soul.......2006-03-18

A true Epic Metal masterpiece, and my all time favourite Album. The concept is so spiritual and ancient. A state of Defiance against all the False Gods that try to control our fate. And powerful inspiring music to go along. If someone needs to define what Epiko Metal is, then.. this is it! David DeFeis is a Master of the Force and there is solid musical proof of that! Invictus..

5 out of 5 stars "I'll never alter the course of my steel, I am the king of my soul!".......2005-12-26

Wow. Wow. This album is easily my favorite, ever. It truly fits Defais' own description of Virgin Steele. Barbaric Romanticism, from a whisper to a scream. Every SECOND of this album is interesting and posessing that magic force that only the most true and commited of musicians can wield, and I'm saying this after 2 years of listening to it almost every day (or at least one song from it daily). Invictus is an incredible set of hymns to live your life by, magic and power exists in it to the FULLEST. I really don't know what else to say, words hardly describe the feelings I get when I listen to this album.

5 out of 5 stars Defais delivers .......2005-05-22

I must confess that I put off purchasing this one because it seems to be a little hard to find at a decent price, and because I took Defais at his word when he said this was the completion of the Heaven and Hell trilogy, which are excellent but not transcendent in the way the Atreus albums are; and because he also seemed to be implying at times that the production of this album was rushed. I guess I also thought that because this album is relatively obscure meant it probably wasn't as good as the Atreus albums.
Maybe you're thinking something along the same lines. Don't make the same mistake I did. If you like Virgin Steele at all -- if you like power metal or epic metal or symphonic metal at all -- you must have this album. It isn't optional, it's required. I don't say this lightly: this is as good as any modern, synth-style power metal album ever made. The ending track is Defais best song and just maybe the best power metal song I have ever heard; even at over ten minutes it never gets boring. It's the mournful yet triumphant song that all the power-prog pretenders have been trying to write but never pulled off. But then, every song on this album delivers. Every riff catchy and powerful, every song an individual entity and yet fitting into the larger concept (which is not the Heaven and Hell concept at all, but a different, unique entity of its own, more in line with the Atreus concept, only superior). The production is the best of any VS album; still elegant and clean, but with more spontaneity and power than any album before or since, showing that this is a true band, not just a collection of hired guns gathered around Defais.
Invictus by Virgin Steele: a legitimate masterpiece of popular music; an inspired and inspirational work of art; a centerpiece of your collection; and worth tracking down almost regardless of the monetary cost.

5 out of 5 stars Best Virgin Steele Album.......2002-08-19

Until i got this album i had The Marriage of Heaven and Hell 1 and 2 and The House of Atreus 1 and 2. Invictus is an amazing album, with a powerful guitar sound and more metal in it than other releases, and David Defeis is very attacking but also mellow in slower parts. If you wanted to hear the definitive VS album , this is it. One of my favourite cds out of my 250 cd collection.

5 out of 5 stars Invictus.......2001-10-26

Incredable CD! Now I grew up listening to groups like Iron Maiden,Sabbath,Judas Priest...ect, this CD blows them all away.I bought Virgin Steele's very first album(yes it was an album, not a CD!)about 15 years ago then never heard from them again till now. I can honestly say Invictus is the best recorded piece of music i have ever heard! If you like metal music with a singer who can actualy sing then get this CD now, as well as House of Atreus act1 and II.
