Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Progressive Metal.......2001-09-04

This is another exellent progressive metal CD from Reading Zero. Reading Zero retain their unique sound from The Actual, their first CD, but alter it in a couple of key respects on Satellite Sessions, their second CD, to produce a distinguishable feel to the music.

The music on this CD is still heavy, but it seems darker and gloomier than on The Actual. The strong vocal melodies remain and Chris Roy's voice is still full of emotion, but there seems to be more anger in it. The increased edge or aggression to the vocals contrasts more with the warmth of the vocal melodies. Compared to The Actual, most of the songs on Satellite Sessions have a slower, moodier feel to them.

All of the musicians in Reading Zero continue to display their talent. It's difficult for me to pick a favorite song, but one of them would be Scene Unseen because it reminds me the most of the songs from The Actual. Other favorites are Drinking Tea with the Moon, Sipping Tea (instrumental), and When the Snow Falls.

5 out of 5 stars Fans of Fates Warning, Old Queensryche and older Metallica.........2000-10-13

When I popped in the CD, I had no idea what to expect, except that a friend in college used to play their first CD all the time and I grew to love it. I wasn't sure if this was going to be the same one, but even though it wasn't I am completely overwhelmed by the emotion that just drips off this CD!!! The vocals just rip and then fall back, the interplay between the 2 guitarists is simply incredible and the drumming and bass work is solid throughout the whole CD. It is progressive, but not so much as to turn me away... this is easily one of the best CDs I've bought since Parallels and Operation Mindcrime!!! Now I need to get their other album. It is very dark, heavy, yet very melodic... and I remembered some of the choruses right off the bat, which is rare for me. If the band reads this, "GREAT JOB GUYS, YOU ROCK!!!"

5 out of 5 stars FOR ALL THE FATES WARNING FANS, THIS IS A MUST!!!.......2000-10-07
