...Biggest Disappointed I have had in music...........2006-08-09
First off I love true 80's metal.
I think we need way more good bands in this style of 80's power metal singing the glory of metal {Hammerfall etc.}. I remember when this band came out, all the magazine reviews saying they were getting tried of so many bands playing this 80's metal. Well I do not remember that many bands playing true 80's metal. Most added a bunch of progressive stuff to power metal. Well Sacred Steel had it right. They play Manowar type metal anthems,
Sacred Steel was formed out of the ashes of Tragedy Divine {another Progressive, Power Metal band}.
Mutz {vocals} and Knittel {guitar} Forming Sacred Steel and the other forming Spiral Tower {progressive/power stuff}
Second the music from this German band is very good and tight with excellent classic power metal riffs. The song titles {"Tonight the Witches Ride"/ "Carnage Rules the Fields of Death" } and lyrics are right up my alley.
Last and most importantly the higher pitched vocal style {oh man! Mutz singing in general} ruins this album. I am so disappointed because I really tried to like this one. Thought this album might be an improvement over there first one...but his vocals are just awful here too.

This could have been one of my favorite bands and now it is in the never listens pile just because of the screeching chalkboard vocals........man! Man!! Man!!!
A gift from the metal gods.......2002-08-09
just for you to know , sacred steel are not power metal band, sacred steel are pure heavy with speed riffs and aggressive lyircs. they are the worthy to wear the metal throne as much as manowar. the album war gods of metal opens with a dramatic
but powerfull speech. and then comes the bang!, the song- wargods of metal , heavy sound , speed riffs, loud screaming voice of gerrit - the lead singer as he shouts: "metalheads unite...now stand up and fight", you'd know this is a true metal band.I can't hear this album Specially this song without feeling an up rising to spirit and my blood run fast through my iron viens. The album is about the war we have as a true metal heads against the false army and the Deceivers of metal, you'd fine arsh calls of going out to war with swords in hand and fight till the hand against the enemy, as the song "by steel we rule" says: "by steel we rule, by steel we rule- wargods of metal , we kill for you. the album beside giving you metal powers and healing your soul also this album makes you stand proud of being a metal head from the first row, the albums is not only about chasing posers but also about the unity of the metal community, it comes to unite all the metal brotherens so they would fight together side by side and not against each other. the album ends with a tremendous song called :" heavy metal to the end", the bless of the metal gods penetrate your soul as you hear this song, with the chores: " stand and fight with sword in hand - heavy metal to the end, fight and die the gods command - heavy metal to the end", you feel like you have to go to the next store and buy a real sword and raise it with proud into the air. personally I really enjoyed this album and I suggest for you , if you are a true metal fan to purches this album as soons as possible.
Pretty Good Power Metal.......2002-06-03
My friend has a copy of this and we blasted it on a road trip! It's pretty cool. The riffs are excellent, the solos kick .... The vocalist is quite unique, which is a good thing in power metal. although he's kind of annoying after long periods of time. I gave this 3 stars instead of 4 because one of the songs, I forgot which...steals part of Iced Earth's "Slave To The Dark" pretty much note for note.
Power Metal At Its Best.......2001-12-10
After purchasing the latter of this group's album "Blood Lust," I immediately had an eager urge to find this blessing, and with good reason. These guys do the "sword and sorcery" concept like no band I have ever heard, and each song is epic and fun to listen to.Though their lyrics aren't written as wordy as one of their obvious influences, Bal-Sagoth, their lyrics are much fiercer in my opinion.There is much criticizm on Gerrit's voice being so high. To me, it fits the imagery that the band is going for just fine. With ultra sharp riffs, the higher lyrical tones are reminiscent of that to that of a blade of steel shredding through the breastplate of an adversary from horseback.If you are interested in any band that really strives to keep the "metal" sound alive, or are really interested in fantasy and lore, be sure to look into this worthy album.
Have fun.......2001-05-04
There's nothing overly elaborate or intricate about the music or the lyrics. It's sort of basic, perhaps formulaic, but damn it, it's done with power and energy. There are very few bands that I have so much fun with. While other bands fall flat on their face trying to do this amazingly elaborate nonsense, Sacred Steel simply comes out and slams you in the head with a sledgehammer. Very melodic, very heavy. Very cool.
Whenever I hear people talk about Sacred Steel, I'm surprised at how pompous, anal, and pretentious they sound. Maybe it's just power metal fans, or maybe it's the fact that we've become indoctrinated in cookie monster vocals or dying dog howls, but they really miss the point. Sacred Steel is about grandeur and over the top imagery. Imagine Manowar's goofy lyrics, metaphors, and battle hymns mixed with a healthy dose of Judas Priest and some touches of traditional 80's German power metal, and you have Sacred Steel. Sure, the vocalist is high pitched and has a different accent, but not everyone can be Morbid Angel or Helloween ripoffs. If you listen to this album, just relax and enjoy it. It's fun.
