Customer Reviews:
..........2005-05-16
While this was my least favorite album from Incantation, it's still a good slab of brutal death metal.
Pros: The production is good, Dave Culross is an excellent drummer, and you can find some more classic tracks on here (Annointing The Chosen, Sempiternal Pandemonium, and Apocalyptic Destroyer Of Angels is on here).
Cons: The songwriting on this album was noticeably rushed to meet the deadline for their label at the time (relapse records). Also, the tracks Lustful Demise and Nocturnal Kingdom Of Demonic Enlightenment were rather bland and boring in my opinion, and John's leads on tracks 3 and 4 were quite lame as well.
Well, that's my 2 cents on this; hope this was of help...
The one and only Incantation..........2004-11-28
This is the first cd of the mighty Incantation that I ever heard...I borrowed it from a friend and I was instantly hooked! This is what Incantation is all about, doomy, twisted passages into the depths of hell and back...Demonic sounding vokills, killer guitar riffs, and flawless drumming, what more could you ask for?! The cover art and the artwork thru-out the booklet is awesome too! I love Incantations time changes too,how the go from blistering speed,to low,raw-end sludge...Mike Saezs voice goes perfect with this cd(and Blasphemy),Johns guitar riffs are amazing as well, and Robert Yenchs lyrics are pretty cool, and of course one of the masters of Death Metal drumming,Dave Culross, does some amazing drum work on this classick cd! Standout tracks besides all of them are Anoint The Chosen,Extinguishing Salvation,Sempiternal Pandemonium,Heaven Departed,Apocalyptic Destroyer Of Angels, and Nocturnal Kingdom Of Demonic Enlightenment...7 out of 5 stars!
infernal storm.......2003-10-20
actually, 4.5. As i decide to broaden my death metal horizons, i notice Incantation. this is my first album by the band, and i must say it is a brooding slow trip through the depths of hell. i mean, the singer has the voice of satan himself, and speaking of the singer, he is the ideal voice of death metal, not saying hes the best, but he has a perfect death metal voice, low, gutteral howl, and he never lets up, now, i do perfer death metal vocalists that you can more understand, such as brett hoffman and chuck schuldiner, but i mean, i cant complain, this album is good. EXCELLENT guitair riffs, and i mean they are perfect. dark, slow at times, fast at times, and relentless. the drumming is that of excellence as well. these guys have a theme to their lyrics as well, aside from killing, consider it being "death" metal, which is a plus. the album is slow in its own way, and does speed up at times, but the vocalist is slow, considering the lower than hell gutteral singing, he has a slow dragging voice, and it makes a good mixture with him and the music. this is a good album, overall, and it is really a album you have to listen to as a whole. there are no hits on this album, and no one song is better that another. overall, a good disc, and no flaws, except personally i perfer a more understandable singer, but i am not everyone, so pick this up if you want a flowing dark brooding album.
Incredible!!!!.......2003-08-24
This cd blows my mind. There are plenty of some-what odd time sigantures on this album which I enjoyed, being a musician myself. The vocals very deep and gutteral, and the guitar riff are often very catchy. Lots of speedy guitar riffs and blast beats but yet also lots of slow crushingly heavy parts. Brutality a plus and a very large headbang factor.
A very solid album here.......2003-05-07
This definately surpases the highly overrated 'Diabolical Conquest' in that it is a very solid, consistent album. Structurally, this is very sound, while also showing interest and variance amongst tracks. There are lots of great song hooks, often serviced through a real knack with tempo changes (a sensitivity undiscovered by most metal bands), excellent production (a perfect mix of clarity and heaviness), the vocalist goes less on the unnecessary drama of Corchado (from 'Diabolical...') with a more suave approach mirroring the effect Craig Pillard (an earlier vocalist) once had.
'Heaven Departed' - wow, what a song! So simple, yet so original, leaving the blast beats at the start and descending into doom and dark groove.
This album is more striaghtforward than earlier albums (such as the last song of 17 mins length of 'Diabolical...' - the albun's highlight), but thats not a bad thin at all. Why complicate things?! This isn't modernist classical music! Its metal! Its popular music. This album is a great taste of very professional death metal. I class Incantation right up the top in the death metal world.
(Also strongly recommend 'Mortal Throne of Nazarene').
