Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Decent, but DC can do better.......2006-07-09

I must preface this review by making it clear that I am a huge DC Cooper fan. I'll buy just about anything he lends his amazing voice to, and generally think he walks on water. That said; I am disappointed with Worlds Apart. Truthfully, I'm disappointed with all three Silent Force albums.

DC Cooper is an immensely talented vocalist. I love his work with Royal Hunt, and his solo album is one of my all-time favorites. That's why I hate to see him waste his time with Silent Force's cookie cutter power metal. This is the same kind of music plenty of other bands are playing. The only thing that makes it stand out is DC Cooper. Worlds Apart is probably the worst offender. The band name, logo, and cover art all scream "budget" and if I didn't know who was singing, I wouldn't give the album a second glance.

I'm not saying Silent Force makes bad music, or that Worlds Apart is a bad album. It's actually a decent power metal album with great vocals. I just expect more from DC Cooper. His kind of voice is much better suited to the kind of melodic hard rock he gave us on his solo album. The Frontiers label has a really good track record when it comes to taking established vocalists and giving them melodic rock "project albums" (see Jorn Lande and Russell Allen's the Battle, Michael Kiske's Place Vendome, and Tony Harnell's Starbreaker albums). I can only hope they will hook up with DC at some point and come up with an album that is truly worthy of his vocal talents.
