5 out of 5 stars Classic Death Metal.......2005-12-06

Massacra's debut is something of a lost classic within the Death Metal scene. The closest comparison would be Morbid Angel's genre-defining debut album, 'Altars of Madness', also released in 1989. Like that record, the music on display here is assuredly 'Death Metal', a brand of Death Metal which has been directly influenced by Thrash/Speed Metal and indirectly influenced by Hardcore Punk, rather than vice-versa.

Unlike Morbid Angel, Massacra (from France) are much more obviously rooted in the sound of Germanic Thrash bands such as early Kreator and Destruction. Lurking beneath, there is a distinctly South American darkness surrounding the razor-thin guitar sound, snapping drums and rasped vocals, (think early Sarcofago and Sepultura). Still, for all their primitive bludgeoning, the band are more technically and compositionally sophisticated than their influences, which is what marks them out as a significant band in the evolution of Death Metal.

Those accustomed to the blistering warp-speed technicality and precision blasting of newer Death Metal bands such as Krisiun and Decapitated will doubtless feel a little under-whelmed by this, but people seeking to truly understand the roots of the genre could do a lot worse than pick up the recent re-release of `Final Holocaust'.

Final Holocaust is by far My favorite Massacra Album , from the French National Anthem Intro into Blinding Darkened Ripping Riffs , your brain envokes the chaos your listening to and sends the Pleasure signals from your brain , your in metal nirvana , soaked with with a Rictus grin of delight
