Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars The last good Sinister album .......2006-03-09

Good, yes.

Overproduced, yes.

Better than the albums that followed this one.

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps their best album..........2005-05-28

Aggressive Measures is a claasic slab of brutal death metal. While I'm not the biggest fan of the dutch scene, this is one of my favorite death metal bands ever. While a slightly different approach from their first 3 records, the music is faster with a bit more technical prowess involved, the grooves are heavier, and Eric's (one time vocalist for Severe Torture) growls are menacing. The bass guitar is really low in the mix, but I guess it's better that way since keeping the bass down preserves the clarity of the guitar riffs. Buy this and you will NOT be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars highly enjoyable.......2002-12-26

This is the first Sinister album I picked up, after seeing them on tour with Nile. I must say I'm very imressed.

I've read many bad things about this band on various forums, as they seem to be one of the scapegoats for people (or fans) slagging off Death Metal. Tut tut I say.

Saw-like guitar riffs, monstrously low vocals, and extremely punctual drumming are the order of the day here. Every song is laden with catchy and often technical riffs yet unlike, say, Decapitated, Sinister never lose track of the song.

New, at the time, vocalist Eric did not stay with the band for very long, but he left his mark with some quality vocals. Very low, no screams to be found here, he did the job very well. I can't be sure however whether he was better than previous growler Mike. Bah, who cares.

If I were to find faults, I would say that the bass is not loud enough, especially during "Into The Forgotten" and "Chained In Reality" when it is on its own. That, and Aad's drumming could use a little more variety, especially on the slower sections. Production wise, apart from the previously mentioned bass, Aggressive Measures is excellent, with a very full on guitar sound and nice double kick.

I would recommend this to Death metal fans everywhere. Sinister are a good band who deserve more recognition than they have gotten in their decade plus existence. Horns up to them.

4 out of 5 stars Solid album, but not as good as "Hate" and "Diabolical...".......2001-03-28

I really like this album, but there are a few flaws with it, namely the guitar tone, which is not as strong as it was on "Hate." The vocals do make up for it, with newcomer Eric spewing out vocals much lower than Mike did. The songs are slightly more technical here, but there's quite a few catchy riffs. This is a very good brutal death metal album, and you can rest assured that everytime you pick up a Sinister CD you are going to find quality brutal death metal!!!

5 out of 5 stars My head hurts..........2000-12-28

I heard Sinister for the first time back in '95, and was quite impressed, though I never followed up on the band. This year I finally purchased Aggressive measures, as I was curious to see whether or not they'd improved. HELL YES THEY HAVE! Bart rips out some amazing riffs, and this whole album seems designed to make it impossible to bang your head too, as songs break down into brief collections of riffs that whizz by then immediately shift, and the drums go from blasting to intentionally slowed down stop start patterns. Catchy trem picked melodies, fast power chord insanity, and insane syncopation create an album that can rival Morbid Angel as being a death metal band for guitarists...I'd love to see a second guitarist added, to see if some interesting dual guitar melodies, tracking, and counterpoint result. Crushing album...
