5 out of 5 stars An Album With TRUE "Staying Power"!.......2007-03-05

>>>>>>>>>>If you're looking for a cd, not necessarily the best in the band's catalogue, but one that you can pop in the cd player at almost any given time and still enjoy it, then here it is! "Powerage" not only captures AC/DC in their prime, but it also showcases some of Angus' catchiest and most complex guitar work (both in his soloing and in his riffs), some of Malcolm's best rhythm guitar duties, and of course, all Bon has to offer, because that's all he ever gives to his fans. While not as popular as other AC/DC classics such as "Highway to Hell" or "Black in Black", it still is probably my third favorite album from the "Thunder from Down-Under." This cd just has IT. I don't know quite exactly what IT is, but IT got me hooked in right away, gave me countless and memorable listening experiences, and still gives me enjoyment to this day. In reality, it's so hard to describe, I don't know where to start.

*************Take the new and fresh gem that is the track "What's Next to the Moon"; the gang-vocals on the last couple of verses, the new and creative tom-beat from Rudd, or the nice, simple riff delivered by our favorite schoolboy. Take the classic "Sin City" (my personal favorite on Powerage), with the creative bass-guitar interlude and simply delicious solo from Angus (my fav on the cd), the live-friendly hits "Riff Raff" or "Rock n Roll Damnation" both containing vintage-AC/DC riffs, catchy chorus', and Angus' trademark solos, or the underrated and memorable "Downpayment Blues" and "Gimme' a Bullet" both amazing songs with creativity and freshness shroudding their glory. And those are only a few of the goods. The WHOLE album is full of nine great rockers, not one of them being bad. In short, "Powerage" is literally a flawless recording, production-wise...in musicianship... in the whole attitide and atmosphere of the cd really.

-So, if you want an album that won't displease you, won't leave you scratching your head in dissapointment (asking yourself where the band went wrong), but that will leave you with appreciative ears and a black-toothed grin on your face, for God's sake get this classic!

5 out of 5 stars The best with Bon.......2007-02-13

Easily the best with Bon Scott, a toss up with Back in Black for their best album. Angus is at his wildest here with his blistering out of control solos...lsiten to Riff-Raff! Plus some unexpected gems like "What's next to the Moon" and "Down Payment Blues".

(European version better with inclusion of 'Cold Hearted Man")

3 out of 5 stars More Consistant Great Rock And Roll.......2007-01-13

Ac/Dc is a band that is unlike any other band out there, they have never changed, they have never tried to experiment with concept albums or radio-friendly love songs,or invited other writers in to get their videos in regular rotation, they have never followed trends...simply put,Ac/Dc crank up the guitars to 10 and have fun.Isn't that really what rock and roll is about? You never have to think too hard while listening to their music, which is a good thing. If you want to think about social conditions or politics while listening to music this is not the band for you. However,if you want to crank it up and have fun, this is the perfect band. Powerage followed the fantastic "Let There Be Rock" and somehow got lost along the way. Many people passed by this great release which is a shame. It is extremely similar and in my opinion is almost as good as the two CD's before it 'Let There Be Rock' and 'High Voltage'...there are no leaps forward but that's okay...Angus is still playing the best blues based leads on the planet and Bon Scott can still scream and sneer better than any of his peers...the only problem with this release is that there were no huge anthems like the previous albums had...there are no "Whole Lotta Rosie" or "TnT" but this CD does include Sin City which I think is right up there with the top 10 songs Ac/Dc ever recorded...it also includes Rock And Roll Damnation which is one of my personal favorites from this genius band...Riff Raff is another great song...and Down Payment Blues is another great one...but with the exception of the very cool vibe of 'Gone Shootin' (which was featured in the Beavis And Butthead movie) the second half of this CD pretty much flops...the first half is classic but it definitely ends on a downer..all that being said, you really can't go wrong with anything from Ac/Dc..their songs are all from the heart and Bon's vocals and lyrics are always entertaining and Angus is the king of blues based rock and roll...if only for Rock And Roll Damnation and Sin City alone this CD is worth it's price...but the rest of the CD is either great or pretty good too...so it's definitely worth buying...but if you're new to the band start with Highway To Hell and Back In Black..then check out the whole back catalog...this band is extremely consistant..every album is similar and very much fun to crank up and bang your head to!

The Upside - Sin City and Rock And Roll Damnation are true masterpieces...great production throughout...great songs to turn up loud and have fun with...every Ac/Dc album should be required listening for any fan of rock

The Downside - The second half of this CD is definitely not up to the standards of the first half...It sounds almost too similar to the past 2 releases 'high voltage' 'let there be rock' so much so if you put all 3 albums together you might think they recorded them on the same day.

The Bottom Line - While it is not nearly the best Ac/Dc CD out there it has great production...great songs...and features Sin City (one of the best songs they ever recorded). There are no terrible songs and a lot of the songs are actually great. It's most definitely worth buying and it's for any fan of rock and roll...my only advice is to start with Highway To Hell or Back In Black and then come back to CDs like this or 'High Voltage'...Powerage is a true classic CD that shows what rock and roll was meant to be...loud,simple,and fun...crank it up and have a blast this CD is great...the donutman says so!!!

5 out of 5 stars More classic Bon.......2007-01-01

As much as I like Brian Johnson, and especially Back in Black, he'll never be Bon Scott. And there'll never be another one like him. Thankfully his voice, character, and spirit will live on forever. RIP
