VanHagar sounds tired, the dream IS over.......2007-02-11

Runaround is the riff at the end of Jump made into a song. An example that the Van Halen brothers and Hagar are all getting tired and losing inspiration. Ed and Al's boozing is starting to take its toll here judging by this weak effort of songwriting.

hello!? Hagar = Heinous!.......2006-09-18

As if the stupid acronym title isn't bad enough, this CD has Sammy Hagar on it and we all know that Van Halen was done for after Roth left. They should have quit right there and not gone through the shame of awful vocals brought to them by Hagar the imposter. Any CDs without Roth are awful because of the vocalists, and if you want to experience the unobstructed raw power of Eddie Van Halen's guitar playing then you need to purchase any of the Roth albums except for Diver Down. I most recommend "1984", "Van Halen (self-titled)", and "Women & Children First". Then comes "Fair Warning" and "Van halen 2". But those are the albums to look for, the classics. All other Van Halen albums are soiled.

Missed Superstardom By a Few Months (Along With Many Others).......2006-08-29

It's very easy to overlook Van Halen's eighth studio album; after all, it was released in 1991. Inside a year that sports so many timeless, influential and down right quality releases (see Nevermind, Ten, Blood Sugar, Metallica), countless great albums like Mama Said, Gish and Badmotorfinger don't even make the top 20. For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge falls into that category of underappreciated masterpieces that would be up for album of the year if released just a few measly months earlier. And why so many slate Van Halen for their efforts after the departure of Diamond Dave is yet another of Rock's great mysteries (Pinkerton's demise being one, the popularity of American Idiot for another). The likes of 5150, OU812, and especially this dark horse LP rival any effort from the first half of Van Halen's fabulous career in musical quality and exposition of Eddie Van Halen's talent. The epic openers `Poundcake' and `Judgment Day' are set up men for the piano classic `Right Now' and shining star `Top of the World' at the opposite end of the album, of course leaving little room for filler. Few times is E. V. Halen able to rival the quality of Poundcake, but both the minor-hit `Runaround' and the deep-cut jammer `In `n Out' offer a good amount of sturdy, memorable Rock. I like the triple combo of `Pleasure Dome', `In `n Out', and `Man on a Mission', a climax of sorts that rivals the quality of `Drop Dead Legs', `Hot For Teacher', and `I'll Wait' off of 1984. Again, it's a shame that F.U.C.K. is so lost in the shuffle.

This one Caught Me By Surprise.......2006-08-09

Van Halen is my favorite band behind Pink Floyd,So one day i desided to buy all of their albums. I picked up For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge for one cent plus shipping and expected it to be mediocre. Instead I discovered three of my top ten favorite Van Halen songs and my favorite VH avlbum besides Van Halen 1.

The Album opens up with Poundcake, with some of the best background guitar work I have ever heard from Van Halen.

The second track is my fifth favorite Van Halen song, Judgement day. It just spews energy and makes you want to sing out loud or just go and kill something.

The best song on the album is the most underated song on the album, Dream another Dream.

Another note is 316, which was turned into one of the best live guitar solos ever.

If you want to hear solid hard rock with great vocals and better guitar, F.U.@.K is the album for you.

Besides "Right now" there's no piano/keyboard on any track.
That's why it's the most guitar album in Van Hagar era.
1 Poundcake - it's good rock track with nice riff and nice chorus 10/10
2 Judgement day - it's fast pop metal song with nice double taping solos. 10/10
3 Spanked - its classic S&M song with guitar riff sometimes similar to ringing of old telephones. 10/10
4 Runaround - it's typical pop-rock in VH style, nice solo. 8/10
5 Pleasure dome - dark song, very hypnotic, but you have to be in mood to like it. 9/10
6 In'N'out - It's a lot of guitar work, but this one is too long and chorus becomes boring after few minutes. 7/10
7 Man on a mission - very cute riff, nice song, vocals and solo. 10/10
8 The dream is over - very melodic rock, maybe too melodic? 7/10
9 Right Now - piano/guitar rock anthem, big hit. - 8/10
10 316 - slow guitar instrumental - 7/10
11 Top of the world - another pop-rock song, nothing great 7/10
