2 out of 5 stars Dissapointing.......2004-05-14

I actually only have this album along with the live album. Trying to find Cro-mags albums is like looking for a needle in a haystack. Hopefully I will be able to find some soon... Anyway what about this album? In comparison to their other albums (and yes that includes Alpha Omega!), this is a bit of a letdown. The first track 'Say good-bye to mother earth' starts the album off well and is of the usual high quality we've come to expect from the 'Mags. The rest of the album is OK, nothing particulary special, but still fairly listenable. It is also alot more metal than previously, and is a far cry from the 'Age of Quarrell' or even 'Best Wishes' days of yore. It is slower and has a few more ballads on it. This is both good and bad. Good because they are fairly well constructred, but bad because the album is never able to gain any sort of momentum as a result of this more 'slowed down' approach.

This is not what bothers me though, what really ruins it for me is track three, 'War on the Streets'. Reading that title you would guess you would be in for a slab of brutal all out hardcore, however you would be sadly mistaken. On listening to this track, I could not believe what was coming out of my speakers! What I was confronted with was probably the cheesiest and stupidest song that these guys have ever recorded. On listening to it, I thought I might have picked up an Aerosmith or Guns and Roses cd by accident! (ugh). I tried to skip on to the next track to try and ignore the horror of what I'd just heard, but the damage was done, and as a result the rest of the album was ruined for me. I hope no-one has to suffer what I had to endure! and also was the original version of Other side of madness so good that we had to have it covered again here?

Overall this was a fairly average album, with a couple of good songs. I would have rated it higher but for THAT one song. If your wanting to get into this classic HC band get their other albums first and maybe pick this up if it's going cheap like I did.

1 out of 5 stars Near Death??? This one put the nails in the coffin.........2004-01-04

As a true Cro-Mags fan I had to purchase this album. But let me tell you, I know that during the time this came out the band was not talking to eachother and pretty much said it was through. What I did not realize is that whomever mixed/produced/engineered this CD must have hated them too. There is some good music but it is so badly mixed that it pretty much kills it. Even though the Cro-Mags have had their personal differences with eachother, I am glad that they put them aside to put out 'Revenge'. Also, re-releasing classic tracks on 'Before the Quarrel' which is a great CD for any Cro-Mags fan. Check out Harley's new band 'Harley's War'.
