Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Shihad (Pacifier) Shihad.......2005-01-19

This album was the first of the new lighter sound Shihad put out. Their previous albums were HARDOUT!...they kind of went a bit soft..but in doing so proved they can really write a good tune, and appeal to a much wider audience. Apparently Iggy Pop considered them to pretty good at the time!. However , changing their name to Pacifier and an attempt to break into America proved their downfall, both in cred and sound.
Now re-renamed Shihad!, they have decided to get back to NZ and be what they originally were...a hard out rocking good band...new albums are apparently in the works under their old moniker.

5 out of 5 stars 5 Stars Plus.......2003-03-01

This is the best Shihad (in my opinion) album. Runs the gauntlet with Hard Rock, Blues Rock, little Punk Rock, and a great ballad to finish it (Boat Song). Everything song has a little different slant/sound to it. Highly recommended!!

5 out of 5 stars Kiwi's Rock.......2002-07-31

New Zealand's own Shihad - (now known as Pacifier - ironically enough, they changed their name to "pacify" potential american audiences after Sept 11, cuz they thought Shihad sounds too much like Jihad)- The best rock outfit in a long time - these guys are real rock stars.. I just wish Australia would stop claiming them as their own, and the rest of the world would sit up and notice.

Iggy pop, Faith no more, and others have lauded the boys from the 'had.. just check 'em out for yourself. Especially if you like big rock, kind of industrial, with a punkish edge.

check out 'La La Land', 'Yer head is a rock', and 'Pig Bop'.. also check out their next album after this "The General Electric", and "The Blue Light EP"... tunes to watch for 'my mind's sedate', 'wait and see', 'the thin white line', 'sport & religion'.

Go The 'had!!

4 out of 5 stars pretty darn good.......2002-02-14

Good third release from this New Zealand band. Not as groundbreaking as 'Killjoy' but a solid release nonetheless. Production is tight and the songs are good; albeit more straightforward than previous releases.

4 out of 5 stars Most intense live band I've ever seen live.......1999-05-22

Being just across the pond from their homeland, I've had many opportunities to see Shihad play live (most recently at the Iron duke in Sydney). Their intensity and energy on stage is matched by the quality of their albums and material. I've been a fan since Churn was released and I picked it up on the spur of the moment(no regrets). I would have to say that whilst there is definitely the distinct Shihad sound on the self-titled album, the peak of their work (and my favourite Shihad album) is Killjoy (unfortunately not available on amazon for all you Americans). The hard, raw, and industrial intensity of Churn is just incredible. Turn this album up very loud (my favourite after Killjoy), But by all means get the self-titled album, you won't be dissapointed...
