Customer Reviews:
sweetness.......2002-09-08
This album's sweet but "The Dead & Buried Outside of Reno" is gonna rip it up. They mix up the technicality of JSF w/ some melodic HC like AILD does on their split w/ American Tragedy. The demo's have a lot more double-kicks too. It's gonna rip, rip, rip.
The Journey should continue.......2001-05-31
This album truly grew on me, I love the constant change of melody and its sharp contrast with the lead singer. At times the screamin(singing) often seems to flow smoothly with the guitar and drums and at times go off on something else while the melody and the screams grab for your attention from each side. Its great stuff to rock out too, and great bass too. Knife Fight is all out best song on the Record, unfortunately none of the other songs have the breakthrough sound it has, and only tracks 1 and 8 seem to lack what all the others have. Its some sorta form of EMO-HARDCORE. Sorta like if Juliana Theory of they had a lead singer who screamed? Though I felt that SF could have gone further into their new breed of music, and at times fell back safely onto familiar hardcore ground when they could have broken even more ground. Despite that my only other complaint is that it clocks it at a dissapointing 34 mins, when I wanted MORE AND MORE AND MORE! Good debut, lets see how that sophomore effort builds up. Hopefully to be what this record aspired to be.
Metal For The Nation.......2000-09-21
This CD is very tight. These guys have a very hardcore sound plus lungbutter screaming. I would say it is like the old Embodyment and ZAO (from SolidStateRecords) meshed together, but sometimes with a slight hint of punk drums. On one song the main vocalist is screaming his soul out while a clean vocalist smoothes out the whole endevour making it very complex yet it will make you cry. The only downside is that there is not enough variation in some of the songs themselves, there is much repitition, but it does add to there style. All of the songs from this band all has its own individual style that completely matches this bands name: the Society's Finest. This still definitly deserves a 5.5 star rating. I'd say this is a great purchase, no matter what kind of metal you are into.
excellent.......2000-09-19
i could not believe it when i bought this album. i had heard some other stuff by them and i wasn't overly impressed but this album definitely blew me away. This album is perfect for fans of stuff like zao or TFU. They play a tight hardcore/metal style. I especially love the metal guitars and the alternate singers on a few songs.
they're even cool in alaska........2000-09-19
okey doke, SF is just freakin' awesome. listen to some of the samples or go to mp3.com to judge for yourself. i recommend eggshell and knife fight as the first ones to listen to. the sound just can't be described, i'd say crossing strongarm with embodyment (before they went emo) would just about do it, but if you need to read this review you probably don't know those bands.
