Customer Reviews:
One of my all time favorites!.......2005-08-04
I remember an interview with Tracii Guns a few years back, he was asked about writing a good song and he said "I could write 'Let It Be' and it wouldn't matter, no one is listening."
There is a lot of truth in those words, so many great songs, for whatever reason, just never get heard, even though millions may like them. Timing and marketing and image mean more than great songwriting.
Whipped is filled with awesome songs, but it seems the world could care less. In 1992, no one wanted a Faster Pussycat album, just as they probably don't want it now. It doesn't fit with reality T.V., trailor park trash bimbos, gangsta thugs etc.
I will tell you, this is an awesome ROCK and ROLL album, that you can probably get very cheap. It is smart and funny and sleazy. In fact it is probably too intelligent for most people, but it is still fun and doesn't sound dated or cliche.
My favorite lyric is from "Out with a bang." "Baby, I'm not your wallflower, ain't no puppet, ain't no saint, call me old fashioned but I'll do ya on the first date." Only way Out is also a simply awesome song.
I highly recommend this CD!!!
Band hits their creative peak, But grunge killed 'em.......2004-01-10
While most hair metal just did the same thing over and over again. Pussycat at least tried to expand their sound and that's what most of this LP contains. From the great ballads "Nonstop to Nowhere"(a loser finds himself an adult with a wasted life) and "Mr. Lovedog"(a great ode to Mother Love Bone's Andrew Wood who died of a heroin overdose). To some real horrrific events "Only Way Out", "Body Theif" and "Maid in Wonderland." While most hair metal fans will not like the albums somber tone, there still is some great music on it and the band sounds great.
Basically, Pussycat knew the party was over and in a few months after this release(I actually saw them on one of their last shows in Philadelphia, they were great) so where they.
Not only underrated but where 11 years too early!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2003-11-19
Have been hooked on Faster Pusseycat, since 1987. Love them for just doing their own thing and not copying what every other band was releasing. Also that they didn't care what the critics thought about them and their faith in what they where doing. (In 1987, too many bands weren't themselves merely doing what ever their label wanted and consequently selling out.) I have always liked the combination of Brent Muscat and Greg Steele on guitar. I also liked the edition of Brett Bradshaw on drums. Got to see Faster Pussycat with Brett on drums three weeks after joining them, in Maine and he's awesome. He knew their stuff and much better than Mark Michals. I Really liked Whipped!, mostly for the variety they give you and for their songwriting. My favorites on the album where: "Nonstop To No where", "Big Dictionary", "Madam Ruby's Love Boutique", and "Mr. Lovedog". Recently, replaced my copy of Whipped!. Lost my original copy , moving and didn't replace it since I also have it on tape. My only complaint about Whipped is this. I owe a copy of "Belted, Buckled and Booted" a four song CD Single. I'm dumbfounded that "Too Tight" and Charge Me Up" are on the single, but left off of Whipped! here in the US. (It's on the Japan release.) Because their awesome songs and should have been on the album also. I could see, both "Cat Bash" and "Loose Booty" on a single or just make it 14 track release. Who knows maybe they would have kept them signed on Elektra and they would still be around today going strong. If you can find the above single it's a must have and really good. The other two songs on it are, "Nonstop To Nowhere" & "You're So Vain". (Amazon does have a couple used listed.)
Listening to the music today too much of it not only bad. But Faster Pusseycat was already playing most of it on their three releases between 1987 to 1992 and especially on Whipped!. Plus Taime, Brent, Greg, Eric and Brett are all great with what they do in the band and highly talented. Unlike too many of todays bands. They are Original one of a kind. All three of their releases are must haves and well worth it regardless the cost.
Very Under-Rated album........2003-08-26
This is one of the most under-rated cd's out there. I think that this is definately Faster Pussycat's best cd. If you like metal, this one will not let you down. Loose Booty and Mr. Lovedog are just hilarious. My favorite line is in Nonstop to Nowhere, "dont believe the preachers, they're just sticking out their hands, dont believe the government, who the hell's this uncle sam"
Album hits all the bases, and also hits below the belt..........2002-06-18
Whether you want to call it hair metal, party rock, 80's metal, glam rock, or just good old fashioned hard rock & roll, this album from that greatest of genres has it all. I'm probably in the minority of Faster Pussycat fans who feel this way, but I think this is their best album. The highlights include the epic rocker "Nonstop to Nowhere", the hilarious "Big Dictionary" (this song will make anyone who considers himself a "writer" think again!), and the touching ballad, "Friends". "Cat Bash" and "Loose Booty" add more humor, but it's the band's ability to maintain a coherent identity while exploring such a variety of styles and sounds that makes this album so incredible. None of the songs are expendable. This is a rock album that'll grab you by the jimmies and won't let go.
