3 out of 5 stars The Power Is Still Here...but.......2007-01-04

As most of you know,Accept is one of my absolute favorite bands so it is really hard for me to write an average review of this band.Death Row is not a bad CD,it has all the classic sound of this metal force,it has killer guitar solos and the absolutely awesome vocals of UDO but something is missing.What's missing is the killer melodys that were a trademark of Accept through the years.It is a really heavy album,probably much more so than anything they ever did before but most of it is not memorable.The album opens with the title cut "Death Row" which is one of the best Accept songs ever,and is absolutely the highlight of the album,after hearing this song I had such high hopes but it goes into "Sodom & Gomorra" which is just mindless head banging,"The Beast Inside" is a great song and then comes "Dead On!" which rocks right up there with the best of any Accept,a truly great song,but then "Guns R Us" more fast pounding music without much melody,I could go on and on song by song but you get the idea. There are some truly inspired moments,Death Row,Dead On,Bad Religion,and the instrumentals "Drifting Away" and "Pomp And Circumstance" are truly beautiful,Wolf's guitar playing is absolutely amazing,Udo's voice is as always in top form but with those few exceptions the songs just don't stick with you. I think Predator is a much better CD and proves that even towards the end they DID have songwriting ability,same with Objection Overruled,and this CD just doesn't have that. If you are new to Accept I would recommend starting with Balls To The Walls,Breaker,and Metal Heart,then move on to Predator.

The upside:Some truly awesome songs,in particular "Death Row" and "Dead On" and some of the best guitar solos you will hear on any band's CD,not to mention Udo's vocals which are heavy metal singing some of it's best

The downside:Alot of songs are just not memorable,alot of fast pounding beats and many of the songs sound the same,lyrically nothing that jumps out like the outstanding lyrics on the 'balls to the wall' album.Basically too many filler songs.

The bottom line:You should buy this if you want a great CD to play when you are angry,if you want to crank it to 10 and drive in your car,this is the CD for you,very aggressive and fast.If you are a true Accept fan you should have it for the 5 or 6 great songs,but if you are new to the band stick to "Balls To The Wall","Breaker","Metal Heart",and "Predator",and heck,if you love this kind of music you should also check out "Wolves" by X-Terra there is a song on there called "I've Had Enough" that fits perfectly alongside songs like this. Overall "Death Row" is not a bad CD but it isn't great all the way through either. Donutman says so!

After the somewhat lacking (yet still fun) "Objection Overruled" the stomping/slashing "Death Row" came as a total shock. THIS was the Accept that we had to know and love and THIS was the Accept that was making music on par with early records such as "Balls to the Wall" and "Russian Roulette". The production is top-notch, the band are playing like a cage pack of starving pit-bulls and Udo has rarely sounded better. Accept made a record for the 90's with this one. This change bothered quite a few but the new sound was bloodthirsty, loose and rocking...I, for one, am left extremely satisfied by this new vitality from a "reunited" band that manages to sound fresher than the Priest and Iron Maiden reunion albums (Ripper and Bruce #2 era) that would come shortly after.

This record is brimming with classic hooks and riffs from the opening "Death Row", to the slamming "Sodom and Gomorrah", to the grinding "Stone Evil" or even the sliding "What Else?". The lyrics are politically charged with an actual mind behind them and Udo delivers them with such conviction that it might matter little as to what lyrics are printed in the sheet. Udo could sing the phone book in this manner and I'd purchase it! Wolf Hoffamanns riffs AND solos are both singable without one song falling under the radar of at least being fun. This may not have been the epic "two guitar" Accept of old...but this new form is stripped down, sweating with fever and ready to fight the power.

I give this two thumbs up for being a "comeback" era album by a band that still manages to sound fresh and lively. It's more intelligent than most Germanic metal offerings and is worthy of EVERY metalheads attention and is a MUST own for fans of Mr. Dirkschnider and Accept.

4 out of 5 stars Accept - 'Death Row' (Volcano).......2005-02-20

Good later day release by the German metal ensemble.This is probably the best effort that Udo and crew had unleashed since their all out high and mighty 'Restless&Wild' album.Modern day metal classic.Be warned,this record is H-E-A-V-Y!!Check out the earth shakers,like "Dead On","Prejudice","Like A Loaded Gun" and "What Else".Udo's unmistakable vocals and Wolf Hoffman's stunning guitar work has rarely been more so intact.Well worth hunting down a copy.Nice!

5 out of 5 stars The best album during Accept reunion.......2004-09-29

When Accept has reunited in 1993-1996 they have released three albums. This is the middle one (after Objection Overruled and before their last - Predator).

For me, this album is the album which should have set their direction. The music became more modern and very professional. It seems, that Accept, as a veteran band, in this way similar to Metallica, AC/DC, Aerosmith or Scorpions, has realized what is needed in order to stay popular through the generations - it is to have their own style and adapt to decades.

Unfortunately Accept has not stayed to this line in their next album Predator - which I don't like just the same, as I love this one. And it shows, Accept disbanded right after the Predator.

The songs to be mentioned are of course the first two: title song "Death Row" which is slow and very heavy, and much faster "Sodom & Gomorra" with a Khatchaturian "Sabre Dance" solo. Also, my best song here is "Like a loaded Gun", which has a very powerful refrain stressing the word GUN, that you can get your head off when shaking it. The instrumental ones are also remarkable and shows off what a guitarist Wolf Hoffmann can do, and later does in his solo "must have" album "Classical".
