Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars One of the Live Greats ****.......2006-03-27

This CD hasn't been recieved well in ANY circle; critics despise it, fans overlook it. The CD has fared best amongst the uninitiated, which was me back in 1992. My first three CD's were purchased at almost the same time: Metallica's "Black Album," Aerosmith's "Get a Grip," and AC/DC's "Live." I still love all those albums. It puzzles me that "Live" gets very little respect considering the high quality of the band's material. "Thunderstruck" is better live than on the "Razor's Edge." "Who Made Who" live is a total classic. "TNT" is very different from Bon's version, but not inferior. Sure, the "Back in Black" material is not as good as the original stuff, but the same is not true for the mid-80's-through-1990 songs.

Perhaps everyone is partial to the first incantation they remember from the band. A good majority of the fans, swear by Bon Scott's 70s version of AC/DC (something I've never been partial to). Many prefer Brian Johnson's 80s band. And both of those camps tend to ridicule the post 1991 stuff, myself included. After this album there was the Last Action Hero Soundtrack and a couple albums with three-star material at best. Then again, if that were true, "Live" captures AC/DC at the end of their stride, not their peak. Ahh, for me none of that matters. I think we're all fond of the first album we ever hear by a band, and this was mine for AC/DC. This is how I remember them.

Overall: 8 out of 10.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent, but collector's edition is probably a better buy........2005-09-06

First off, this is an excellent record which I would normally highly recommend. However, the collector's edition is, in my opinion, a much better choice.
As far as the actual music goes, it is by far one of my favorites. The live recordings capture the energy of AC/DC very well. In fact, I generally prefer the live versions to their original recorded versions. For anyone who is even marginally an AC/DC fan, or even just curious, the AC/DC live is a must have.
That said, the collectors edition's regular price is only an additional $4 (at the writing of this review it is discounted to $16.00). That additional $4 provides 9 extra songs which are not included on the one disc version. Therefore, it seems pointless to buy the one disc version.
Like I said, AC/DC is an amazing band, and their live recordings are even better. I just can't recommend this CD when a far better alternative exists.

5 out of 5 stars Great AC/DC album.......2004-06-17

I have been a fan of AC/DC for a while now but have never owned any of their albums. I saw this album in a store on sale so I decided to buy it. Man, this album is awesome. It takes their already awesome greatest hits and adds in the special factors that differentiate them from regular studio album tracks i.e. Brian Johnson talking to the audience, hearing the audience sing back, and a generally faster pace of the music.

I don't about you but I like hearing Johnson pump up the audience and in this case, the listeners of this CD. It is a great buy and will bring a sinful smile to anyone's face while getting you energized.

3 out of 5 stars AC/DC Live.......2004-06-13

Despite the fact that the band's best days were obviously behind them, a live album for AC/DC was all but completely necessary. After all, the group's first live release, If You Want Blood You've Got It, was recorded at a time when AC/DC was nothing more than a cult act who had yet to produce many of its future rock staples. Though recorded well into their career on the Razor's Edge 1991 tour, AC/DC Live surprisingly captures the hype and excitement that made AC/DC such a hit in their heyday. The set list wisely overlooks the songs from the band's mid-'80s slump and concentrates on hard rock hits such as "Hells Bells," "Back in Black," "Highway to Hell," and "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap." Brian Johnson's voice may not be as strong as in the early '80s, but he still sounds competent in his role. All too often, a live album is a cheaply made, rushed recording that only serves as a testament to a band's decline. AC/DC Live, however, shows what makes this band different from their peers -- here they are still entirely capable of pulling off a great live show. This ranks among the best live metal albums of the '90s.

5 out of 5 stars AC/DC - Live.......2004-02-10

AC/DC is one of my all time favorite bands. They know how to rock! This C.D. is no exception. They get the crowd pumped and get my blood boiling! This C.D. doesn't have all the essential AC/DC tracks, but for me, this C.D. is still great. The C.D. contains such great songs as Back in Black, Highway To Hell, Money Talks, Hells Bells, TNT, You Shook Me All Night Long, Thunderstruck, Dirty Deed Done Dirt Cheap and The Jack. Every AC/DC fan should own this C.D., no just to complete their collection, but to have it for what it is...LIVE ROCK N ROLL!
