Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Still on the right path.......2005-06-24

Gus G.continues to churn out quality music that show his roots to the past metal gods, while putting his own stamp on metal's future. Firewind continue to play clear, aggressive, melodic, heavy metal at all tempos. The CD features shred guitar sound with a singer who sings at a mid to high level pitch, while the songs feature good tempo changes along with strong melody. Top tracks for me are "Tyranny" which is a mid paced driver with a chorus that will make you put your fist in the air and sing along. "Can't Escape from Tommorrow" is a superb rocker that starts up tempo, then kicks into a higher gear for the chorus, which blisters. All in all this is top quality metal that should lead the way for metal to make it's comeback.

5 out of 5 stars GUS G. IS THE MAN, AGAIN.......2005-04-03

AS OF THIS REVIEW, I WILL HAVE TO DISAGREE WITH THE ONE REVIEWER BEFORE ME, THIS RELEASE IS KILLER. YES THE VOCALIST IS DIFFERENT BUT NOT AT ALL AS BAD AS WAS MENTIONED. CHITY IS AN AWESOME VOCALIST, AS WAS STEPHEN BEFORE HIM. GUS G STATES IN AN INTERVIEW THAT CHITY REMINDS HIM OF ONE OF HIS FAVORITE VOCALIST, KLAUSE MIENE OF THE SCORPIONS. SO DONT WORRY, THE VOCALS, AS WELL AS GUS G'S POWER SHRED, ARE TOP NOTCH. THE CD ITSELF IS HEAVY POWER METAL WITH GREAT SONGS AND A-ONE PRODUCTION. MARTY FRIEDMAN AND JAMES MURPHY MAKE GUEST APPEARANCES ON ONE SONG EACH, WHICH IS A TRIBUTE TO GUS G'S APPRECIATION OF METAL ROOTS. ONE OF THE BEST OF THE YEAR.

3 out of 5 stars The good of the new, and the loss of the old.......2005-03-19

First, the most noticeable is a lineup change. New vocals, Chity Sompala. Stephen was a better vocalist, he's more raspy : clear : and determined. While Chity sings of similiar style, he lacks power and sounds rather backwashed or gargled. It's almost as if he's trying to sing in a style he's not comfortable with, or even a language he's not comfortable with. I dislike the new vocals. That loses points. They've gotten a new keyboardist, and thankfully you'll find keyboards do not take center stage. Some bands these days abuse the hell out of keys, and even, *gasp* give them their own solos (Sonata Arctica, Stratovarius, Children of Bodom as some bands that abuse keys). So you'll be happy to hear the keyboards give it a great touch without taking away from the highlight of all firewind albums: Gus G. Gus is also the man behind Dream Evil's great riff work. In this 3rd offering Gus does not fail, he's just as technical / fast as he wants to be / creative / and heavy as always.

So in final regards, the playing in this album matches well and doesn't fall behind any of their other releases, but the vocals are a step / possibly even a big step backward. Their "Burning Earth" album is a better purchase, but this isn't that bad by any means.
