4 out of 5 stars Great Second Album.......2007-03-08

The Heavy by UPO is a great follow up to UPO's first album. They mix the mostly hard stuff with a few (thankfully) melodic tunes. They are a unique band that is very hard to compare to.

3 out of 5 stars I Don't Know..........2005-08-01

I'm listening to this c.d. and I'm reading the reviews, and I just can't understand why the heck this is gettin good reviews. After listening to this disc a few times I can honestly say the hard rock songs are nothing short of dull and boring. The standout songs are the acoustic and soft rock songs. While I prefer the harder sound anyday, these guys aren't good at it and they just don't deliver the goods. 4, 10, and 12 are alright songs with 12 being the hardest with an Alice In Chains kinda grunge sound. Other than that the cd is boring. Overall, It's a slightly below average cd with a few decent songs that I'll be ripping onto my comp and then selling the cd. You might check it out if you're really desperate for new music but I wouldn't recommend it.

3 out of 5 stars kind of bland with a couple of exceptions.......2004-12-29

u.p.o.'s debut "no pleasantries" was a pretty lame disc.i listened to it a couple of times and killed their lukewarm hit "godless" but it just didnt warm me up.i heard "free" on the radio and when they said it was by UPO i just about died.i had to get their new cd.i really had to hunt this one down, as it is on a small label and hard to find.the opening track,"lies",dang.this song is so good i cant even begin to tell you.the guitar effects and vocals go together so well.it is easily one of my favorite songs of the year and i havent quit listening to it since my purchase in july (im actually listening to it now).very catchy and could easily be a radio hit."i feel" is a good song, nothing special though.another single worthy track.the album kind of becomes one song after the opening two until "free" which is a tribal esque rythmic tune with vocals i didnt even know mr. abro could produce.UPO's sophomore album is a decent effort and one that alhtough wont make them big successful rockers will give us a few good songs to smile about.for fans of thornley, dropbox, and soil.

5 out of 5 stars KEEP 'EM COMING!!.......2004-11-16

Great!! Just plain great. Like the 1st one as much as I like this one... they tried a few new things, and really got it to work well for them... while giving up the sound in the 1st album that was, well, starting to get out-dated w/ all bands... which is why they never took off as big as they could've had they came out a year or so earlier!

Anyway, like I said, they've managed to keep their essence from the 1st album, and mix up a few things, and it just really cooks. Can't wait to see how much they further refine and perfect their sound for the next album! Like the 1st album, only like 2 songs that I skip through... the rest, get played every time, w/ just as much enthusiasm as the previous track.

Now a confession... it too took me a couple of times to adjust to their new sound, and really appreciate and love the album... not a die hard fan or anything, I just love REAL music, and they're one of the few bands who just kick total butt, yet are still mostly non-mainstream, and un-radio friendly... they've got more songs that could go to radio and be huge successes... more so than most bands, especially these one-hit-wonder punk bands... but they just don't get radio time... totally not right! I call and request a song of theirs to be played about once a month to different radio stations, and most of the people answering the phones are like "WHO??" and that's just plain sad!! UPO, keep F***ing rocking and kickin [...]

4 out of 5 stars Nice to see them back.......2004-07-10

I got this cd on an impulse because i really enjoyed their first album "No Pleasintries." At first i wasin't to impressed with it. But after giving it a nice long listen it has grown on me. Allthough i still think U.P.O's No Pleasintries is the better album. I hope that U.P.O. plans on staying around for a long time i already see they have switched record lables. However i just hope their next album will be a bit more on the harder side of rock. If you liked No Pleasintries do your self a favor and pick up The Heavy.

album highlights- "The Fall", "Its Alright", "Go", "Free", "Now You Want Me", "Dive", and "Walk On Water."
