4 out of 5 stars Doom Metal in the Solitude Aeternus vein.......2006-05-17

The Living Waters is the 1997 debut album from doom metal band Last Chapter. Like fellow Texans Solitude Aeternus, Last Chapter's brand of doom metal is very much influenced by Black Sabbath and Candlemass. This is not the slow, plodding funeral doom of My Dying Bride. Last Chapter isn't afraid to pick up the pace when necessary. Last Chapter is also apparently a Christian band. I had this disc for a few years now before picking up on that fact, which tells you they don't wield their faith like a blunt object (like several other Christian bands do).

Similarities to Solitude Aeternus are inevitable, since that band's vocalist sings for Last Chapter on this album. I also detect similarities to lesser-known metal band Wicked Maraya (check them out, you won't regret it).

The Living Waters should appeal to a wide array of metal fans, not just doom metal fans. Fans of Solitude Aeternus should find this album very much to their liking.

4 out of 5 stars old school made new.......2002-01-15

an awsome cd if you like slow metal/hard rock you'll love this one. The singer sounds a bit like Dio, in fact the whole albulm sounds like a newer version of Dio/black sabbath with out that chessie 70's style distortion. The keyboards are great and give the songs a darker mood to them. This is a must have cd.
