Customer Reviews:
Muerte!.......2005-08-06
Music is a mood thing. Some days, the ethereal sounds of a New Age forest soundscape or the precisely orchestrated power of a Beethoven symphony fit the mood. Other days however, nothing but sick grinding Death Metal will do the job. For a totally mindless Death fix, Brujeria's "Raza Odiada" is hard to beat.
The mysterious Mexican based supergroup makes absolutely no compromise to subtlety whatsoever. There's no room for melody, harmony, or even much common sense. Other than a spoken intro by Jello Biafra, the entire album is performed in garbled Spanish. It's pretty difficult for a non-Spanish speaker to figure out what is going on, but it's immediately obvious to speakers of any language that it is unsavoury, brutal, and more than a little tongue in cheek.
It is possible to glean a little meaning from some of the tracks though. "La Migra" actually had a video made for it, with English subtitles. It is about the treatment Mexican illegal immigrants get when trying to sneak into the United States. Apparently, the US Immigration Service isn't afraid to beat anyone, including grandmothers and the mentally infirm. "Padre Nuestro" is a new version of a song which first appeared as a seven inch single and appeared on the `At Death's Door II' compilation.
Juan Brujo and his crew learned how to play their instruments a little better than on the band's 1993 debut, the delightfully chaotic `Matando Gueros'. They must have also made a killing in the narcotics underworld too, because the production sounds clearer too. A number of the songs are sequels to those from the first album, but the vital spontaneity of the band is retained.
It's impossible to pick up more than a few words here and there, and while the songs are hardly identical to one another, there is also little to be gained from trying to distinguish one track from another. Brujeria's music is a mess, but you probably knew that before you picked up the album. Enjoy it for what it is - mindless fun.
a fun album from an underappreciated band........2004-07-09
Janitor-x has done a great job of explaining what this cd is. If you liked the Brujeria from "Matando Gueros," expect almost none of that. However, what you do get is highly enjoyable thrash, with just a tinge of death metal. I also don't speak Spanish, but was able to enjoy this immensely.
kick a$$.......2004-03-25
this is one awesome cd. All of the songs are really aggressive and heavy. Excellent for headbanging. Get this cd.
BETTER THAN MATANDO GUERROS........2003-10-23
This is brujeria's second and best album.I have heard all of brujeria's work and I can honestly say that I liked this one the best. All the songs are faster and heavier than the ones on matando guerros. Not to mention that the sound production on this album is alot better than matando guerros.Enough said,go out and get this today if you dont already have it.BRUJERIA RULES!!!
IN YOUR FACE THE WAY METAL SHOULD BE.......2002-02-17
RAZA ODIADA is a metal band made up of members from FEAR FACTORY and FAITH NO MORE to name a few. The lyrics are sung totally in Spanish which adds to the deepness of this album. The topics that the songs cover are satan drugs racism to name a few. You might not be able to understand the lyrics(I dont) but you can find web sites that have them translated for you. The most important things is not understanding what is being said, but the feeling that you get from the music. The music is fast and in your face. It is loud, angry and aggressive. These are characteristics that make great metal music. I think all the songs rock, but I think that ones you the listener should pay attention to are REVOLUCION, RAZA ODIADS(PITO WILSON), RITMOS SATANICOS, LA MIGRA(CRUZA LA FRONTERA II). If you are a fan of FEAR FACTORY, I beleive that you will enjoy this album intensely. Go out and buy this one now
