Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great death metal album.......2006-07-06

This is a great death metal "supergroup" if you will, catastrophic features Rob, Chris, and Kieth from Pyrexia, Brian Hobbie from Internal Bleeding and Trevor Perez from Obituary, and overall sounds more like Obituary than the other bands, basically Obituary with a bit more variety and some blastbeats, this was released after the split of Obituary, so those of us who were still craving more when Obit split then this was the perfect gap filler for that, I have not heard the newer ep that came out recently but this full length will always be one of my favorite death metal releases of all time.
Hate Trade kicks in with a traditional obituary style guitar intro and right into an instantly memorable guitar riff, the vocals are death metal without being overly deep, Balancing The Furies is fast and features some blast beats, this song is reminiscent of later period Pyrexia, Enemy slows it back down to Obituary speed, oh did i mention that this album kills everything that Six Feet Under has ever done, just wanted to throw that in there, Lab Rats is one of my favorite songs and is furious and fast, short and to the point, Messiah Pacified reminds me of the obituary song World Demise, The Cleansing is next and has a fade-in intro and continues the mid paced pummeling, Pain Factor is another upbeat song and keeps the brutal pace going, Jesters Of The Millennium is different than the rest of the songs but not in a bad way, actually one of the best on here, love the guitar harmonies too, The Veil is another obituary sounding song, you can tell which songs Trevor wrote the music for, Blood Maidens is fast, blasting and insane, also one of my favorites, You Must Bleed is a good song, doesnt really differ from the rest and lastly Terraform kicks in with a good heavy drum based riff, mid paced crunchy and heavy, just the way it should be.

5 out of 5 stars the cleansing.......2005-06-22

Catastrophic, which features someone from obituary (one of my first death metal bands) lets call him t.peres, no no thats much too obvious trevor p. (there that will do) and pyrexia (if you don't know who this band is then don't listen to death metal) members. The cleansing is an absolute blast to listen to. From start to finish this cd kills. Trevor p sounds great and keiths vocals are simply punishing! My favorite thing about this cd is that there are NO filler songs on it, each song the perfect length and the songs get better as the cd progresses. The production on here is really clear and eberything is mixed really well. From neck snapping speed to brutal breakdowns catastrophic has all the basses covered. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2001-07-13

If you are a fan of Obituary, this is a must have.Great production and Trevor Perez sounds great as usual.

5 out of 5 stars very good album.......2001-04-02

I got this cd at the local CDWarehouse where they were having a special that day, that if you bought 3 or more of their $8.99 already opened cds, the price of each would drop to 6.99 (2 bucks). I decided that I would look and see if I could find 3 good cds that I would want. They had a new copy of this album on the 'new' shelf, so I couldn't listen to it, or so I thought. What do you know, I was thumbing through the cds in th e black metal section when I found a used copy for 8.99. I listened to it, and discovered that it was very good.

This cd reminds me at times of Sinister's technique.

The drumming is interesting and creative, the guitars are great, the music writing is also very good. There are alot of diverse songs. Alot of times with many albums many songs sound the same, same drum pattern, etc. I didn't notice that too much on this album, which is very good. I have only gotten about 2/3ds of the way through though, so I haven't heard it all. I could go get it, but I want to finish it in the car on the way to college tomorrow. :-). But from what I've heard, if you like Sepultura or Sinister, or dm or bm, or whatever, you should like this band pretty well. The recording quality is very good (I'm picky about that sometimes). I recommend it for any metal fiend who likes pantera, sepultura, sinister, meshuggah, or similar.
