Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Grand Dance of Death........2006-11-09

yes, not early Marduk, maybe not the best either. 5 stars for me though. All tracks on this CD blew me away. Solid (and evil sounding) vocals, blend perfect with the sound that Marduk has produced on this one. After blasting this CD, you come away feeling like you've been mind-raped by something grim and evil. And I mean that in a positive way! Basically if you like Dark Funeral or Darkthrone, you can't miss with Marduk. Worthy of a place on the black metal rack of torture. And check out Marduk's double live outing, Infernal Eternal.

Unholy Black and Death Metal Forever!

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2005-10-24

Not the most exteme Marduk your going to find,(if you want total brutality, check out the new one "Plague Angel") but thats fine with me. I personnally can't listen to the totally brutal, blistering fast and insanely obsene constantly, this is a nice departure. I own all of Marduks albums and this is one of my favorites...I highly recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars Low key for Marduk standards.......2004-02-11

It's pretty much a rite of passage in the metal scene. Following one's attempt at the most perfectly brutal album ever recorded, it's considered the mature move to step back and do something a bit more thoughtful, which also implies more subdued. Of course, more subdued in black metal terms can still mean neurotically frantic, but the idea is to inject some sort of pathos in there somewhere, let them know you really care. Well, Marduk have certainly displayed no interest in toppling their prior masterpiece of twisted havoc, "Panzer Division Marduk". The majority of "... Danse Macabre"'s eleven tracks hover around mid-period Hypocrisy in terms of intensity (Pete Tagtgren's little brother Tommy produced), often skirting the line between death and black metal(s).
What we've got here is a talented band who are struggling to put out at least one album a year without painting themselves into a box, which is hard to do while treading these musical waters. With each passing month it seems less likely a new savior will lift black metal out of it's creative slump, but in all honesty Marduk were never that concerned with breaking the mold anyway. They've traversed every road there is for a black metal band to follow, rarely coloring too far outside the lines, but while their peers are tripping all over themselves trying to predict the music's future, Morgan Hakansson and his evil cronies are perfectly content living day to day. It's the difference between planning for a comfortable retirement and just having the most fun with your money while you've got some left in your pocket, and in the end, which is truly more conservative?

1 out of 5 stars The Slow side of Marduk,Really slow.......2003-09-04

I hate to say it but La Grande is a real disappointment. From the weak into to the slow breakdowns played alll the time on this disc. I would suggest picking up a good Marduk CD like Panzer Division Marduk.

5 out of 5 stars Sick, brutal, black metal.......2003-02-24

If you want an extremely evil and violent CD check this out. The singer, Legion does some of the best vocal work in black metal and is one of the best vocalists right next to Dani Filth and Shagrath. This album is very technical, and fast but still very brutal. The best songs would have to be "La Grande Danse Macabre", "Funeral B*tch", and "Jesus Christ...Sodomized". These three standout tracks show how true black metal should sound. I would suggest you buy this and any other Marduk CD if you are looking for an evil, anti-christian metal album. STAY METAL.
