Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Perhaps the greatest CD ever released.......2005-10-29

It can't be counted as one of the greatest albums of all time, since it's a compilation (although LIGHTNING TO THE NATIONS would easily make a list of greatest debuts ever) but BEST OF DIAMOND HEAD is an exemplary collection that effectively spans the early years of the band and is perhaps the greatest example of the single disc greatest hits ever.

That feat has everything to do, of course, with the music. Containing almost all of the band's first two albums, assorted singles and choice cuts from their third, BEST OF is the perfect argument that the band that was once referred to as "the next Led Zeppelin" had, indeed, surpassed their predecessors.

Firmly rooted in the NWOBHM movement, it was heavy enough to please metal heads (heavily influencing the thrash metal movement) and melodic enough to please the classic/hard rock crowd. The riffs are memorable, the leads are classic, the vocals are almost bellowed to a great effect, and the songwriting is instantly memorable. You'll have these songs memorized on the second spin.

The only conceivable flaw is that this collection is missing the song "The Prince" but it's hard to find fault in a collection as consistantly exciting as this. Out of all of the many hard rock and metal albums that I own, BEST OF DIAMOND HEAD is easily the most entertaining disc that I've heard. And with BORROWED TIME and CANTERBURY becoming increasingly difficult to get a hold of these days, this release is absolutely essential.

Wonderful music. Play it loud and often.

5 out of 5 stars this is why there is metallica.......2003-06-01

diamond head and motorhead where two of there greatest influences growing up and playing music,dh is the writers of "am i evil" and "helpless" check it out

5 out of 5 stars The best of the MCA period.......2002-02-04

Great stuff from a great band! The songs are re-recorded versions of their earlier work, in a more polished form.
And you also get 4 good songs from the ultra rare "CANTERBURY"
album. At that price, it's a very good deal to hear them at
their peak.

5 out of 5 stars Best of Diamond Head.......2001-12-20

A great collection of Diamond Head's years with MCA in the U.S.. The five songs from "Living on Borrowed Time" are great and affordable, ... These are the versions from the U.S. releases. There are also songs from "Canterbury" and 4 songs from a previous release. After buying imports to get "Call Me", "Borrowed Time", "Am I Evil", and others I finally have the versions I remembered from my albums. I highly recommend this disc to anyone wanting to try DH for the first time or particularly looking for "Borrowed Time".

After listening to this on a nice long round trip I have to admit that the songs I was unfamiliar with, or, couldn't remember from my albums are impressive. I must also admit, for not being a German or Japanese import the quality of this disc is very good! I have changed from 4 to 5 stars on the rating due to the fact that 4 more songs have piqued my interest and the sound quality of the disc. "It's Electric", "Helpless", "Sucking My Love", and "Makin' Music" have already grown on me in just a few listenings. I Highly recommend this to all!

5 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT COLLECTION FROM NWOBHM VETERANS.......2000-03-27

This collection from Diamond Head who were part of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal (NWOBHM) in the late 70's early 80's shows their incredible talent. Just listen to the outstanding guitar solo by lead guitarist Brian Tatler on "Am I Evil". Metallica's cover sounds bland compared to this version. There are so many great songs on this cd starting with "Am I Evil", "It's Electric", and "Helpless". This collection is a must for those who like Saxon, Tygers of Pan Tang, Iron Maiden, and Def Leppard. Highly recommended.
