Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars New challenges, new opportunities for former shredder to shine.......2006-03-08

This album caught me by surprise. For anyone reading this review who doesn't know the Jason Becker story - the dude is really sick with a medical condition that supposed to be terminal in a matter of years. So this album was made under all sorts of terrible circumstances.

Which is what makes it such a surprise. I figured that it would be a bunch of second rate shred licks that hadn't found their way onto either the two Cacophany discs (his band with Marty Friedman) or his earlier Perpetual Burn release.

How wrong I was. This shows a guy proving he had a lot more to offer musically and the limitations set on him have made him really reach out. The first track, Primal, is excellent stuff and he probably couldn't of written it earlier in his career. In a short review it's hard to go into specifics, but this album has all sorts of different stuff on it. Blues style numbers, computer assisted tracks, old curiosities from his earlier days, the lot. All loving put together with inciteful liner notes.

Great stuff from a man worthy of anyones respect.

1 out of 5 stars dull, depressing and miserable.......2003-12-29

I feel sorry for Jason Becker, it must be awful being strcuk down like he was but I have to be honest about this record, I hate it. The songs are just yuck! They are dreary, depressing and miserable. I can't play this, it's not even music.

5 out of 5 stars Guitar Cocktail of the sweetest incredible blend.......1999-08-26

Doubtless, I'm his fan. Jason is this guy who will just churn out plainly hauntingly beautiful and inspiring guitar art of the highest level of all time. From a speed metal past, he has produced a magnificent composition of new-world classical rock. Speechless. It's the last ablum I'll part with for anything.

5 out of 5 stars World's Greatest Guitarist Inspires To New Heights.......1999-07-29

Jason Becker is not the best metal guitarist, or the best progressive music guitarist--he is simply the greatest guitarist who ever lived and this disc is a testament to the undying creativity of a truly great man. "Perspective" features compositions written by Jason over a five year period and assisted by fellow musicians. For those of you who don't know Jason, Jason has been living with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) for over ten years now, and despite his physical complications, he has led a very successful life and has remained a prolific composer and musician which makes Jason all the more inspiring. Perspective shows some more of the type of great compositions that we heard on "Perspective," but also shows some of Jason's more recent interests such as world music and features more classical textures. "Primal," "Rain," "End Of The Beginning," all of these pieces are magnificent. The musicians who assist Jason are top notch players, such as Foreigner vocalist Steve Perry, the great Eddie Van Halen and a few fellow guitar gods. Jason directs the players superbly making them play his compositions with great skill. A truly amazing album from a truly amazing man.

5 out of 5 stars Quite simply, he is a master.......1999-07-07

Whether it's with Cacaphony or solo, Becker is a guitar god!
