Customer Reviews:
Best Gorguts album IMO.......2007-01-15
If there's one thing that I agree with my homie Comrade Ren on about Obscura is that it does get a bit too wild. FWTH is my favorite Gorguts album because they took the sound of Obscura and did what they needed to make it better: they put it under control. It's much easier to stomach than Obscura. The solos are easier to point out, the song structures are better, the production is better, and the musicianship is overall better, not to mention the album is much less "all over the place". Definately a keeper in tech death.
Decent album.......2006-01-18
There are some real good songs on this album (Inverted, Behave Through Mythos), but the album gets a little bit boring towards the end. The more I listen to this album, the more I yearn for them to bring back the Considered Dead sound. I would say this album is more in the vein of The Erosion of Sanity with some twists that Obscura had.
Meh, depends where your coming from.......2005-08-17
Seriously, to the guy below me, the joke's wearin thin, you can stop pretendin to love the mainstream now when its obvious your into decent music yourself such as this. Time to call it a day.
I guess if you do what i did, (listen to Obscura first) you'll be disappointed by this. Its undoubtedly impressive, but doesnt have the same crunch that the latter has. FWTH is one of those cds you wished you'd heard earlier than you did so you could enjoy it more. If your new to Gorguts, (they're not another crappy Gore-grind band as the name suggests; nothing like Gorgasm, Embalmer and the like) get this first then pick up Obscura. You'll be blown away twice, instead of once :P
From Obscura to Hate..........2005-03-20
Unlike "Obscura", these songs are more focused and cognizable, perhaps, and they are certainly in the vein of "Obscura", but not quite in the heart of it. Unfortunately, this is one of those outstanding albums that is cursed to forever remain in the shadow of an even more outstanding album that came before it, but as far as follow-ups to ground-breaking albums go, this one just kills!!! This album features bleak, dissonant riffing that either charges at you or meanders along at a plodding pace and thus results in a harmony between the two guitars. More straightforward growls on this one. There's not as much layering or experimentation this time. It is still worth checking out but Obscura is easily their best. Remember that for the untrained listener, Gorguts is not an instantly gratifying band, but their albums are worthy of close attention and repeated listens. Check it out along with Obscura.
Muchly insane please thankyou.......2004-09-14
Another insane release from these Death Metal provocateurs. This is similar to their previous release "Obscura". Perhaps a bit more accessable, but not by much. Rapid fire time signature changes and incredible contrapuntal and dissonant playing are the main characteristics of this album. An occasional groove will appear such as on the song Das martyrium Des but much of this album is like getting whimsically pummelled with baseball bats by a street gang with a masters degree in percussion performance. The closing instrumental Testimonial Ruins is for me a stand out track. Dissonance and groove, dark and unearthly... this is not your fathers Death Metal.
