what about your fans mike.......2006-07-26
holy hell, Kiske continues to just turn his back on the fans and music that made him famous. this is pathetic....Kiske do a Helloween reunion, or a metal cd befoe you ruin your career ever further if thats possible.
Great - Uplifting but not better than the 2 previous albums .......2005-03-24
Note: Power metal fans beware; there is nothing interesting for you here except for Michael Kiske's voice. Although I have to admit that I don't understand why some people expect every album that Michael Kiske puts out to be a heavy/power metal record (he left Helloween in 1993!)
SupaRed is the latest album by Kiske, who has put together a talented band and has also given it a name, thus emphasising that this is not a solo album (like the previous 2) but a band effort. A long album (14 tracks) with very interesting and diverse songwritting. The tracks don't follow a certain formula, each one has it's own identity, thus giving the album a wide variety of musical genres. Half of the songs follow a somehow progressive rock and at sometimes hard rock (metal) sound with heavy guitars and strong vocals. The other half of the songs are emotional ballads, some acoustic and some more powerful. Mainstream ideas can be found throughout the record but these don't detract from the overall experience as they are fused together perfectly with rock and progressive ideas.
From the harder rock tracks four that stand out are `Boilingpoints of No Reburn', `Hey', `Turn It' and `Let's Be Heroes', which is the catchiest song out of the hole record IMO. The ballads are well written as well and three of which are overflowing with emotion and vocal supremacy are `Ride On', `That's Why' and `Freak-Away'.
All songs are played wonderfully, the guitars are perfect throughout the album and Michael Kiskes vocals are incredible, as always, varying constantly and setting up the mood and atmosphere of each song perfectly. This man is unbelievable he is 35 years old and his vocals in low-range, mid-range and high-range are still mind-blowing!
Another great album that was unfortunately bashed by METAL fans (because it wasn't a metal record but was put out by a metal label) and strangely loved by most critics. The only reason that I gave SupaRed three stars is because I miss some of the classical influenced and orchestral arrangements found on Instant Clarity and especially R.T.S.
Give SupaRed a try after 2-3 listens it might even blow you away
A TRUE VOCAL LEGEND NEVER DIE'S!!!FIVE STAR'S!!!!!.......2004-06-18
It's not Helloween, and I know that suck's for all those Power metal fan's out there that are alot like me.But come on,and look at the bright side.It does atleast have some distorted giutar's thrown very well into the mix.To me these song's are alot like Helloween's slower song's,that just so happen to be also very good, and who know's Michael Kiske, and the rest of Supared might pick up the pace quite a bit on the next album. You know add some speed, and some double bass maybe. If so,that's great!Just as long as it's something that they want to do.I mean,I'll alway's think that Michael Kiske is the best vocalist on the planet no matter what, and that will never change. But his musical styles still might.Although,I still really do wish that he would rise like a pheonix out of the preverbial ash's to claim his rightful place as the legendary Power metal singer that he is,and was.It just might unfortunately never happen, but there is alway's the possability. As long as he realizes that HIS true fan's,are still out there, along with some people who'll knock his music now by saying to me,just give up on that old has been singer, and then say later that they never doubted him, that is if he actually did decide to return to Power metal.
That senario is probably inevittable. If he could do nothing else for his old school fan's like me,and many other's.He should atleast make an attempt to do a Power metal album.Or an album with a few fast Power metal song's on it.Just to show everyone that he definately still has what it takes to kick alot of Power metal a**,and as for this album,I think it's definately a step in the right direction.I also think personally that he does want to give his old fan's some of what they want, even Power metal wise. It's just that he's done some different sounding music, and alot of the old fan's heard it,and totally stopped thinking that he is even a very good singer, now come on that's harsh! And you can just imagine how that would make him wonder if they ever thought he was any good to begin with, and I think those types of review's are just stupid anyway's!It makes me think that maybe they never really liked his vocals to begin with. And if that's the case then why did they act like they did.Anyway's I've said my very long piece, and I think maybe even Mid career Helloween fan's should check this album out.I mean it does have some distorted giutar's in there, and is for the most part some very interesting not to mention catchy music. With a singer that alway's delivers the good's...
My heart is breaking.......2004-02-05
I have loved Kiske's vocals since Keeper Part 1. In fact, he was my favorite metal singer. I love his guest appearances on Gamma Ray's Land of the Free and Masterplan's Heroes. Instant Clarity had a couple of good songs on it and that was followed by the horrendous Readiness to Sacrifice. Unfortunately, this follows in the wake of R.T.S. and is almost as bad.
For some reason, when Michael sings metal his voice is awesome, but when he sings rock his voice sounds whiny and annoying. I found the vocals on this album terribly irritating, almost out of tune, and practically unlistenable. Not that I'm suggesting that Michael go back to metal - he's way beyond that - but it seems he's lost his ability to write a good tune (actually he lost that somewhere before R.T.S.). There is nothing memorable on this album. A couple of the better songs are Let's Be Heroes, Boiling Point of No Return, and Turn It. He Pretends makes me want to vomit.
You can skip this one.
Simply Awesome!.......2003-11-13
Michael Kiske is truly one of the best vocalists of any genre of rock/hard rock/metal. His past history/recordings with Helloween are well known. SupaRed is not Helloween. SupaRed has allowed Kiske the freedom to explore new musical territory. I can't really compare it to any of his solo albums either. Standing on it's own merit, SupaRed is a great band that created an awesome CD. I loved each of the songs and cannot say anything bad about the album. Please listen to it and judge it for what it is, not for a comparison to what Kiske has done in the past.
