Customer Reviews:
Turn it on and rock out!.......2006-08-12
Not quite what I was expecting, but very enjoyable. I was expecting something like Lacuna Coil. But I would compare this sound more to, say, Doro Pesch. It's the first album I've bought in a while that I have rocked out to thoroughly. Play it loud!
Here I am standing above all.......2006-02-03
I'll start off by saying I really like Tanya's voice, something a lot of people seem to have a bit of a problem with. Although her voice doesn't match the power of Lullacry's new singer, Tanja, she has a lot of potential.
I found out about Lullacry through the mail order forms Century Media loves to put in their bands CDs. Looking back having judged from the cover alone, I don't think I would do it again. Just one look at the pictures in the booklet and you'll quickly learn that this band takes themselves much too seriously. Take the quote they put in the booklet, "This is Heavy Rock so play it loud!" Notice they didn't put Hard Rock, they obviously felt they needed the Heavy instead. This CD isn't heavy, and if it was you'd never be able to tell because they put Tanya's voice before the music. Maybe if they'd balance it out people wouldn't criticize her voice so much.
There's one thing Lullacry has a hard time with, then and now, their lyrics aren't very good. There are times where they show some depth but then the lyrics just get incredibly corny ("Just like the dream without the dreamer", not a very good lyric). Then there's the lack of memorable moments, Into Your Heart is the only exception. Pain, Walk With Me has excellent verses (vocally) yet lackluster choruses. Damn You shows a rebel side to the band and has a pretty good chorus, but still feels incomplete. Now I've heard people say that Tanya's voice doesn't 'soar' like they think it should in Firequeen but I'd beg to differ. Quite the contrary in my eyes actually. Firequeen, next to Into Your Heart, is the only other remarkable track on this CD. So I don't know if that's just me or what, but judge for yourself.
My favorite songs are Be My God, Into Your Heart, Pain, Walk With Me, and Firequeen. Lullacry is, ultimately, a hit or miss band. When they hit, it's great music. But when they miss, it's nothing to write home about. I'm not disrespecting the band in any way but I think if they would've given Tanya the chance to do one more CD, she would've proved her worth. I do like the new lineup a bit more, but you gotta give credit, they did what they could on this release.
Great... but not perfect.......2004-05-16
I play this CD a lot, and I love it, but I wouldn't label it as perfect.
Here's why.
Tanya's vocals are strong, but sometimes I think her voice does not suit some of the songs on this album. For example, in "Firequeen" her voice does not soar as much as I think it should.
The pictures. I don't concentrate on image for music I like, but the pictures were very... how shall I put this... strange. It was like the pictures were one big joke... they make me either cringe or laugh; they are so... I wouldn't say hideous, but just plain strange.
All in all, this album is not as good as their latest, "Crucify my Heart", but still satisfying. It's well worth your money, so buy it.
incredible metal/hard rock.......2004-01-19
Lullacry has managed to make an almost perfect sound that other less talented bands who receive radio airtime can't quite hit. Be My God is a masterpiece. This cd is a perfect combination of the foreign metal/hard rock style of great bands such as Helloween and Lacuna Coil with beautiful female vocals. What sets Tanya apart from those pansy lillith fair girls who you hear on the radio is her ability to do metal worthy singing. Her vocal style would make Dio and Bruce Dickinson proud. I'm shocked, considering the popularity of Evanescence or growing popularity of Lacuna Coil, that Century Media hasn't marketed these guys(and girl) better. An absolute must own for fans of metal.
Absolutely Amazing CD!.......2003-03-31
With their 2nd album Be My God, Finland's Lullacry have shown that they can write great hard rock with amazing melodies in their songs. Tanya is a vocalist who has a powerfull voice with terrific vocal harmonies. The reason I bought this album is because I love bands with female singers in them. the reason that I give this album five stars is because it is very consistent and in some ways better than their debut cd. Lullacry is able to write songs that have enough hooks to keep me listening to them over and over. For anyone who likes this type of music I would highly recommend this CD.
