Motorhead - 'Orgasmatron' (Sanctuary Records).......2006-09-25
Originally put out in 1986.Wasn't this the record they finally released after a lengthy dispute with their label? After pulling this CD out for a spin,I discovered that Lemmy and crew had hired Avant Garde/electronic minimalist Bill Laswell to produce this album.About as good as just about any other Motorhead effort.Key tracks include "Deaf Forever","Built For Speed",the totally slammin' "Doctor Rock",title cut "Orgasmatron" and "Steal Your Face".A must-have for all true Motorhead followers.
Amazing lyrics, cool songs and a weird production.......2006-03-20
The majority of the songs are just great, the guitars makes you forget evrything about Eddie (and Robbo, whom you allready forgot), and the drums are really good. But still, it sounds as someone put a carpet over your speakers. OK, maybe not that bad, but on CD this album does not sound as it should sound, that is: heavy, fast and just plain dirty.
But still, some songs does work. DEAF FOREVER is just as mighty as you want it to be.
NOTHING UP MY SLEEVE shows how good Wursel and Phil are together. Really nice chorus.
RIDIN' WITH THE DRIVER should have been the title track. It does deserve it and it's just to weird to call the album Orgasmatron and then have a train on the album cover...
And the title song itself, the all so powerful ORGASMATRON, shows that Lemmy is a genius when it comes to writing lyrics.
Not their best, but REALLY far from their worst. To bad though, that Pete Gill didn't make more then one album; they could've used his drums on the following three albums untill Mikkey Dee took over.
I AM THE ONE! ORGASMATRON!.......2005-11-11
Orgasmatron is an Awesome Motýrhead CD. The title track alone is worth the purchase. A few songs are a little bit weak and prevent this from being five stars like The Claw, that track just kind of annoys me. The bonus tracks are a nice addition as well. The opening track Deaf Forever is another song that earns praise. It's a nice place to start your Motýrhead collection. Excellent riffs, awesome songs, but a few filler tracks bring it down to 4 stars, but that doesn't take away the fact of how great the others are. Go ahead, buy it and listen. The band Sepultura also has a pretty sweet cover of the title track that almost outdoes Motýrhead's.
Another winner from a very talented rock band........2005-10-19
This studio album, released in 1986, may be Motorhead's best project. The album clocks in at around 45 minutes in length, but man that 3/4 of an hour is one hell of a ride. Here is a track by track review.
1. Deaf Forever- mashing hard rock riff that has an amazing chorus. Gill's drums are top notch here as well.
2. Nothing up My Sleeve- another classic Motorheadbanging tune with a great guitar workout from the precise Cambell and the amazing Wurzel.
3. Ain't My Crime- perhaps the most generic sounding song on this album, aint my crime also sounds like the least effective song.
4. Claw- this hilarious song is one of the best and most underated on the album. OK Gill does steal Philthy's double bass riff but it seems that Gill can do it even bette! Great chorus.
5. Mean Machine- this underated track is one of Motorhead's fastest. The chorus is quite haunting.
6. Built for Speed- another good one, although it sounds king of like the chase is better than the catch. The chorus is what really saves this one, and of course, Wurzel's guitar antics.
7. Ridin' with the Driver- this is the second weakest song on the album, which still makes it pretty good. Lightning quick pace may keep this one alive but it still comes across as a filler.
8. Doctor Rock- this song is easily the best on the album, other than the title track. Catchy and hilarious chorus. ''We aint talking dr. Spock!''
9. Orgasmatron- after all the hype I was just a little dissapointed to find this song overated, however, it is still really good, if not a bit overplayed. Atmospheric lyrics and music, along with great musicianship from all members of the band. This song is one of the top songs of rock and roll.
There you are, Orgasmatron isnt Motorhead's best album, but it is really, really close, and is consistent nearly all the way through.
If you are new to Motorhead, here is a step by step guide on which albums to buy in what order:
1. Ace of spades.
2. Overkill.
3. Bomber.
4. No sleep till hammersmith.
5. Orgasmatron.
6. Another perfect day.
7. Iron Fist.
8. Bastards.
9. 1916
10. Hammered.
11. Sacrifice.
12. March or die.
13. We are Motorhead.
14. Snake bite love.
15. Motorhead.
16. On parole.
17. The Birthday party (dvd or vhs)
Probably their last "TRULY" great album........2005-09-23
After Fast Eddie exited the band in 1983, many a fan foresaw the band's demise. "Another Perfect Day" and a compilation album (NO REMORSE) were released to keep fans happy. The compilation album contained 4 new tracks by a "new" Motorhead line up. Replacing Fast Eddie came Phil and Wurzel (on guiars)and on drums, ex-SAXON skin basher Pete Gill. It took the band over to years two release a full length album with this new line up, but the wait was worthwhile, since ORGASMATRON is what I consider their last "truly great" album. I'm a huge fan of their "Iron Fist" album and I seriously doubted the band could top it ("Another Perfect Day", while being pretty decent, was far from perfect). If they didn't top it, at least the quality factor was not dimished. Granted, having 2 guitar players in a band that has been a trio forever would ultimately change the sound. It was nice to hear that the sound wasn't dramatically altered, yet there subtle changes that made ORGASMATRON sound fresh. "Deaf Forever" opens the album with a bang: a slow paced number that resonates with heaviness. "Nothing Up My Sleeve" is just classic, fast paced MOTORHEAD. The song slightly reminds me of "20, 000 feet", a classic SAXON song. "Claw","Mean Machine" and "Riding With The Driver" are classic fast MOTORHEAD, while the title track shows a different sound, more akin to BLACK SABBATH. It's a slow, marching number that reeks of heaviness in a way the band hadn't attempted before. It strays a bit from MOTORHEAD's blues-based mayhem and veers directly into more traditional euro-metal. Brazilian thrashers SEPULTURA did a version of this song so great, that many headbangers here in Mexico think it's theirs!!!
ORGASMATRON is a great great album. I also agree with another reviewer that the so called "re-mastering" is only a "pumped up volume" edition. The drums, which sound deep and huge, are rendered shallow sounding. The original recording does not stray far from this re-mastering, but it would have been nice to hear these songs with all the thunder and fury of a well made and thorough re mastering.
Having said that, this is still a worthy package and a vivid example to newer MOTORHEAD fans of the great things this band used to do!
