Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars nobody weeps for the dead quite like me.......2007-03-08

If'n you don't already know these guys are from Spain and they play 80's type power metal mixed with Celtic music using the violin and flutes and all the lyrics are in spanish. I don't really understand spanish but that's not important to me but what is important is that the music is good also you pay more attention to the music if you don't understand the words. However I've read from other reviews that these guys have some pretty meaningful and funny lyrics.

I think the the first disc has the best songs on it and alone it's worth 5 stars but I don't really care for most of the 2nd because it doesn't really reach out and grab my attention and I easily get bored with about half of the songs. Both discs are full of fast paced rockers and beautiful ballads.

I would recommend this album to any one who likes power metal whether or not you understand spanish because either way you'll like these guys and their blend of metal and folk music.

5 out of 5 stars An AMAZING Album.......2006-06-25

This band is amazingly unique: they play 80s style heavy metal, in Spanish, with a Celtic twist. If that right there isn't enough to make you love this CD, then you'll need to read on.

I speak a goodly amount of Spanish, but I'm not fluent. I can understand a good part of the songs, but whether you can understand the lyrics or not, the music itself is amazing. I personally hear the influence of Iron Maiden, and friends have heard Led Zeppelin jump right out. As far as metal goes, this is amazing music.

There are a number of songs that are simply memorable. Satanía is a full 8 minutes long, and Finisterra is a whopping 15. Fiesta Pagana is a fantastic Celtic song, and Polla Dura no Cree en Dios is just a break from the whole musical theme, with a sound that I can't quite place, but I highly recommend listening to the sample above. Special mention also need go to the song Conxuro, a spell chanted in the Galician language that is somewhat chilling, but very, to put it bluntly, cool.

This is my first Mägo de Oz album, but I will certainly be purchasing more. Overall, this is a fantastic album, and I simply cannot recommend it enough. If you like metal, you will enjoy the album, if you like Celtic music, you will enjoy the obvious Celtic influence on many of the songs, and if you can understand Spanish, you'll also enjoy the interesting messages of the songs.

5 out of 5 stars the best of the best.......2005-08-20

I listen to LOTS of different types of music. Everything from various genres of metal to folk, reggae, punk, and other stuff. Mago de Oz is truly a unique and very talented band. For those, like me, who speak Spanish, the lyrics are poetically touching and full of meaning on several different levels. This having been said, the music by itself is enough to satisfy anyone who likes classic metal like Iron Maiden. But Mago de Oz is no body's clonr. They mix Galician traditional music with their tight riff heavy metal making them truly one of a kind. All their albums are worth buying. Finisterra was my first followed by La Leyenda de La Mancha and Gaia. Listen to the sanples and then begin aquiring all the cds tou can find by this excellent group.
