Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Perpetual Desolation.......2006-08-01

From the first time i listened to this album i was overwhelmed by the ambient it creates. Each song of the album fits in perfectly from start to end. The sound of the violin makes sadness flow naturally as the music reaches its climax, while Anita's beautiful voice drives you through this romantic and sombre journey. Enjoy it.

1 out of 5 stars Amateurish.......2006-02-12

This album represents the poorest example of the female fronted goth metal genera that I have yet heard. Overall the album has a cohesive feel to it with a unique overall tone, but the songs lack any memorable hooks, and the album is plagued by a host of problems. The production is sub par, leaving the guitar tone totally undefined and intermittently muffling other sections. The male backing vocals are laughably poorly done and the violin total overused, soloing on just about every song. Amateurish moments abound, such as the use of a heavily processed/synthesized vocal track at the end of "Partial Insanity" which comes out of the blue and is totally pointless, or the absolutely terrible keyboard solo during their unfortunate attempt to cover Metallica.

2 out of 5 stars No...........2005-03-13

I have heard good things about this band and that they're heavy gothic metal/ symphonic black metal, which is my favorite genre of music. So i bought this. This band does nothing for me. I expected this album to be better, and so i am disappointed.

The only reason i gave this 2 stars instead of 1 is because i love the song, "Flame Of Wrath", and the violins on this album are very beautiful. Otherwise, i don't like this. I don't like Anita's voice. It's not horrible, but there is something about it that annoys the hell out of me.

DON'T BUY THIS ALBUM. If you want a band that is very similar to Sins Of Thy Beloved, try Sirenia. Sirenia is a good symphonic black metal band that blows these guys out of the water. If you want another very similar band to Sins Of Thy Beloved, that is better than Sirenia, try Tristania. Tristania is an amazing heavy gothic metal/melodic death metal band. Other gothic metal bands that are also great are After Forever, Lacuna Coil, Epica and Nightwish. Get one of them instead of this garbage.

5 out of 5 stars woW!.......2003-12-30

Combine one part goth with two parts death metal with two parts of progression and what do you get? The Sins of thy Beloved. This is death metal. It has death metal vocals. But it is also light and beautiful as it has beautiful female vocals as well and also their is an excellent violinist who lets it all out on a lot of the tracks. When a bunch of talent comes together, you know it has to rock!

3 out of 5 stars Gets old VERY fast.......2003-10-07

This CD was okay at first, but the flat female vocals and scrapish male vocals, combined with simplistic guitars, overdone synthesizers, and repetitive drumming make for a product that has very little lasting value. Their first CD wasn't that great, but the songs can be played over more than the ones on here. The Metallica cover is awful. Electric violins sound horrible; Pete should stick to acoustics. Anyway, if you're looking for good Norwegian goth metal, get Sirenia or old Theatre of Tragedy and Tristania, and maybe even the new Tristania, Trail of Tears, or Myriads. But stay away from Sins. On a side note, they have got to be the ugliest band on the face of the earth. Anita is cute and Ingfrid isn't bad, but the men are just gruesome in appearance.
