Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Just another 5 star OMC cd.......2006-04-10

I dont know if I mentioned it in other reviews but I think Galder is one of the top musicians in Black Metal. There are some keyboardist who are better, and some guitarist are better, but Galder does everything except drums and he is exceptional when doing them. When I first got this cd I wasnt to fond of it. At that time I was a Dimmu and cradle fanatic so this didnt get as much attention. Well now cradle sucks nowdays, and dimmu is not as good as they used to be so I have given a lot of attention to OMC and I am loving it like never before.
Phantoms Of Mortem Tales-8.5 Grand epic opening. Than mean riffs kick in. There is a good solo about 4 minutes in. I like everything about this song except the horns at 4:37. They are good but for some reason it just rubs me the wrong way.
Hominis Nocturna -10 This is one of my favorite OMC songs other than agony of fallen grace. Very lush keyboards mixed with some great riffs. It has some really good choir like keyboard in the mix. Towards the end Galder utters some sort of prayer or chant in a sinister voice. My favorite part is the beeping guitar solo towards the end.
In Black Endless Void 10 Opens with some dark classical reminiscent of lord of the rings. As usual plenty of good riffs. Very evil sounding song.
Unholy Vivid Innocence 10 Very symphonic sounding song but not overly symphonic. The melody is not the focal point. It is mainly there to compliment the blazing riffs and double bass. The song actually has a catchy chorus by Galder. At 3:30 there is a awsome solo. It is not overly compicated but it sounds so good. Musically this song reminds me of something off of Dimmus Stormblast.
Passage To Pandemonium 7.5 Same formulas as other songs with riffs and keyboards its just not one of my favorites. Some songs you like more than others, and I like the others more than this song. Still a really strong song.
Obscure Divine Manifestation 7.9 Very fast and heavy song. There are some moments of melody but the rest of the songs here are pure brutality.
World Expiration 8.5 Alot like the last song but I like this one a lot better. It has a really good solo around 3:30. It also has a brief accoustic section that I just love near the end. It doesnt take away from the songs heavynes.
Into Silence Embrace-9 This one has a lot of melody but it is still consistantly heavy. Lots of good heavy drumming. At about 2:09 there is a evil circus like melody. Overall this song is nothing new, but if it works this good why f#$k with it.
On a side note if you like OMC I encourage you to go and discover the band Windir. It is as good or maybe even better than OMC. The genious behind that band is Valfor R.I.P He is probably one of my favorite musicians of all time.

5 out of 5 stars Feel my thoughts, feel my heart and my soul, with sinless eyes watch as I die.......2005-07-04

I would enjoy adressing something before giving my thoughts on this album. If you're reading this you fall under one of the following three category's. A. You want to get into Old Man's Child or are interested in buying this cd and are looking for some opinions. B. You love this cd and are looking for people whom agree with you or C. You hate this album and band for one of these reasons, you may follow religion seriously and are offended by the cover or your'e a true black metal fan and think anything that doesn't sound like it was recorded in a public bathroom isn't "true" To those of you who fall under category A I will start my review soon, however, to adress those whom fall under C let me tell you a few things. While Old Man's Child used to hint at Satan and other anti Christian shubjects they seem to really have it be the lyricial/ artwork back bone for this album, I am no Satanist but there is just something so eerie and chilling about the picture on the back with the track listing. The music however is incredible and is what makes this album great, everybody is allowed t have an opinion on religion even if it isn't what yours is! (personally, I do believe in God but don't follow any religion so it doesn't matter to me what they say) also, while the production on this album is way better than older omc ( Born of the Flickering) it doesn't mean they're any different playing wise and if anything they have only gotten better. Galder is an amazing musician and is the only member on all omc albums and the back bone of the band. Now for a review.

With this album Old Man's Child continue evolving in a positive direction, they don't over produce their albums like on Dimmu Borgir's DCA and it isn't under par either, just right. Vocal wise it is what you would exspect. Everything else is truly perfect, it is fast and heavy yet is melodic (which is why I love this type of music so much, bridging heavy and melodic together) being a guitarist, I find the guitar to be something I find very importanat in my metal and damn does old Man's Child always deliver. While the keyboards don't butt heads with the other insturments, they do their job and add plenty of epic atmosphere to this album. Now, why try and group every sub-genre together cause in the end it is metal (i am not refering to nu-metal or metalcore, which get boring after a while) if it is heavy metal, speed, thrash, death, black or doom. Who cares. At the end of the day it is all metal. With Dimebag being killed and Morbid Angel's guitarist gone missing for months now, it isn't the time for the metal community fighting but joining together for one reason. THE LOVE OF THE MUSIC. One guy might love Death & black metal and hate speed/thrash metal and another guy might hate death & black metal and love speed/thrash metal but at the end of the day they're both metalheads. So anyway, this is great metal for you, with songs like Phantoms of Mortem tales ( a great opener) and Epic keyboard/ guitar driven tracks like Hominis Nocturna and Unholy Vivid Innocence, makes this cd worth every cent. This is a cd you need to listen to all the way through not 15 minutes here and there. Enjoy.

5 out of 5 stars My favorite black metal album to date!.......2005-01-04

This album is absolutly amazing! Every track rocks! The guitars sound huge (thanks to Peter Tagtgren, I think) and the drums are great. If you like black metal, treat yourself to this album!

5 out of 5 stars Magnificent.......2004-09-25

I am a new fan of this fantastic band, and this was the first album I stumbled upon. From the moment I popped it into my CD player - and I was absolutely compelled.. COULD not wrench my attention away. The music is dense, dark and a solid wall of uncomprimising evil melody. Production is solid, the drums especially are a slab of crashing noise.. I am not a fan of overuse of guitars in my music, but OMC makes their guitars truely symphonic in their sweeping nature.

This album stomps over a cold and barren landscape and then kicks your teeth in to finish it all! A must have, I cannot recommend it enough.

5 out of 5 stars furious.......2002-02-26

yeah i know, furious compared to what you ask. but come on, anyone who knows anything about OMC and this style of black metal knows what they're getting into, and if not, then listen up. this is super fast at times and melodic as well but not your typical old school black metal like marduk and old emperor. this produced extremely well, and i don't care who it is... good production will do wonders for the album and the listeners. the best comparison to OMC would have to be dimmu borgir and everyone knows the ties that those two bands have together. they sound a lot alike but these days borgir has gotten more technical with less emotion(which is ok because their newer stuff is definately more mature sounding but still very heavy) while OMC has gotten more ferocious and complete sounding but hasn't lost their atmospheric, melodic taste. now i've heard a lot of black metal, live as well, and i think that i can safely say that galder has one of the more sinister black metal voices and it fits the music perfectly. when you start talking about that subject, a lot of familiar names come to mind like ihsahn from emperor and legion from marduk, hell, even dead from mayhem. galder doesn't have near the reputation that those guys have but he can definately hold his own when the music starts, if you don't believe me, just listen to OMC. this is a great album.
