Believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2006-10-21
This is the weakest cd from DISTURBED but still Great. The reason I give it 5 stars for songs like prayer, remember and Liberate. It keeps it up there.
Reminiscent of the Lie.......2006-10-13
Disturbed was the band that introduced me into the genre of Rock and Heavy Metal when I heard songs from their first album, The Sickness, from the most unlikely sorce: Dragonball Z. Yes, Dragonball Z. Once I realized there was something better than cheesy video game music, I headed to the store and picked up my first ever CD: Believe. To be honest, at first the only thing that mattered was that it was heavy and it was loud. Since then, I have understood more behind the album and its lyrics.
After seeing the horrific events of 9/11 and the death of his own grandfather, singer David Draiman decided to pay tribute to both by writing more spiritual lyrics to go along with more melodic metal and returning to his Jewish, yes Jewish, faith. The album symbol itself is comprised of 4 religious symbols, including the Star of David and the Pentagram. It is not only the lyrics that have a spiritual theme. There is actually a very well written and inspiring piece of writing zig-zagging down the middle of the album booklet that is a very interesting read, even if you're typically not the kind of person to do that.
The problem that most fans of The Sickness may have is that there is no "Stupify" or "Down With the Sickness" on this album. The most upbeat and wild song on the entire album would probably be "Liberate" which is actually very well edited in the amended version, substituting "Motherf***er" for "Mothermother" and still sounding roughly the same. Other heavier songs that old Disturbed fans may appreciate include "Prayer," "Rise" and "Intoxication." The final track of the disc, "Darkness," is a softer, more melodic piece that many fans may be disappointed with or may love deeply.
Final Word: If you're new to Disturbed, try either The Sickness or Ten Thousand Fists before trying this one to experience the true power of Disturbed's music. That doesn't mean a little melody and deeper, more insightful lyrics don't make a album bad. However, the effect is much more felt on the follow-up album, Ten Thousand Fists, where the melody and lyrics are fused with the raw power of The Sickness. Very good, but Disturbed is capable of much more.

4.5.......2006-10-09
Ya know, while listening to this cd for what seems like the millionth time, i realized that i really love it! Coming from a true metalhead prospective, i must say i dont listen to nearly anything as much as i seem to put this one on. And thats after the newest cd of theirs as well. This is filled with hook-laden metal with just enough heaviness to make it all work. And some damn good riffs as well. So i have to give it to Disturbed for making a solid disc that stands the test of time. It doesnt get the recognition it deserves as just being a solid cd. I definately disgree with some of the lame reviews. A must and a secret fave of mine!.
sweet.......2006-10-09
this is what rock should sound like. disturbed has taken their semi-success from "down with the sickness" and amplified it 100-fold with "believe". my favorite song on here is "prayer". by the way, did anyone else besides me notice that all the songs on here are one-word titles?
One of New Rock's Best Moments.......2006-10-05
The album that made 2002 a great year of music for me, Disturbed's sophomore Believe marks the band's best and most consistent effort yet. Time has not been friendly to Believe as the album has lost its impact on even the most die hard of fans who instead now look to Ten Thousand Fists to satisfy their Disturbed fetish. I admit that I myself temporary sidelined Believe upon release of the junior LP, a mistake that I am not likely to repeat upon release of a fourth effort (or a rumored B-side compilation, hopefully coming soon). But what redeems the album are some of the finest anthems of New Rock in `Prayer,' `Liberate,' and `Remember,' all songs that have and will continue to stand the test of time. I love that music here is not fake, not sold out, just pure rock music with scratchy guitars, powerful bass hooks, and raw, natural vocals from David Draiman. With hidden anthems in `Awaken' and `Rise,' both songs that should have been singles, and jagged hard rockers in `Intoxication' and `Bound,' you will find that the album has way too many quality tracks to be overlooked. And unlike both The Sickness and TTF, filler is almost non-existent here. Even the not-so-original and momentum breaking `Darkness' (Do all bands have to make a song like this?) has some value. Oh I will never forget it--Along with a few other classics in Morning View, Hybrid Theory and Jimmy Eat World, Believe made me "believe" (like the pun?) in modern Rock. It will make you "believe" as well.
