Customer Reviews:
Interesting record from the dark past.......2006-09-24
OK the sound quality is very low and the production is very poor, but hey this live show was recorded not to be an album is because of dead's death that the band decided to make a tribute CD to him and of all their live recordings they made, Live in Leipzig got the best sound of all so they decided to make this show an official live album.
Don't expect good sound of the musical instruments here. But dead's voice is very clear and loud. So I recommend this CD only to people that want to know how dead's voice was and how the band played some songs of de mysteriis with him.
If you are new with this band don't listen to this CD yet, get de mysteriis or deathcrush first and then if you like them and want to know about dead's voice then try this live CD
dead!?-what's all the fuss.......2006-05-16
to be honest with you, i'm not too impressed with dead's vocals.
now, just to be fair, the offering is all around decent for a live show recorded 16 years ago.
but my personal problem with dead is he's off point with the lyrics and perhaps that's a biased opinion since i'm used to attila sings on dom mysteriis sathanas but also, live in leipzig isn't the only live recording of mayhem i have.
personally, i think maniac is the better singer and dead, well...dead's dead.
MayheM the way it should have been..........2006-02-24
Dead...i hate you for killing yourself...Euronymous...i hate you for not fighting back...YOU SHOULD HAVE MURDERED VARG...because of these "episodes"...we will never get to experience the true line-up of MayheM...don't get me wrong...Attila and Maniac are realy good...but c'mon...better then Dead? i think not...buy this album and experience true MayheM the way it was back in the black days...
Raw, sloppy, blood-curdling.......2006-02-05
Just the way black metal is meant to be. The murder, suicide, arson, and rumored cannibalism, the things that almost exclusively attributed to Mayhem crawling its way through the recesses of the underground, and gaining relative infamy. But the one burning question ecapsulating Mayhem's material: Are the story and music proportional?
If you're reading this review, chances are you are aware this CD contains Mayhem's most reputed lineup: Euronymous, Varg, Hellhammer, and the aptly named "DEAD" on vocals. At this point, everyone is a bit sloppy. And the production... There is none. It sounds more like a cheap tape-recording. That isn't really as obtrusive as the naysayers would lead you to believe, but if you're an audiophile... "Abandon all hope ye who enter here."
The album initiates with a long silence, and a chattering audience. As soon as you get the idea of fast-forwarding, Dead emmits a possessed howl, and proceeds to shriek authoritively over "Deathcrush." The is recording is basically the quintessential Mayhem tracks, so no need to pull out a droning narrative about each song. Freezing Moon, Funeral Fog, some of the best black metal recordings ever.
What you need to take into consideration is your tolerance of Euoronymous' "necro," chugging guitar meanderings. This isn't technical stuff. Mayhem leans more on atmosphere, despite how many times you've heard that. The guitar sound? The solos sound like the band is battling power tools. The drums? The esteemed drum-God Hellhammer is rather mediocre on this recording, unfortunately. The bass is inaudible.
Whatever the case, this is vile, frost-bitten black metal at its finest. Per Ohlin, A.K.A. Dead, screams his vocal chords raw, reciting misanthropic and gory "poetry." Almost every black metal vocalist since his days in Morbid have been roughly mimicking his tortured screams. And knowing atonality kills simple music, Euronymous makes sure to incorporate a dark, hypnotic sense of melody into his compositions. Try not to get the sickly anthematic "Chainsaw gutsf**k" stuck in your head.
- Thus says the Pellington
Considered a classic in death metal, but not the best live album!.......2006-01-07
Mayhem is the best metal (black metal band) ever, and forether, mayhem has released their first demo in 1986, 20 years later, a new album is coming out. If you want a great live album, buy "European Legions". Its fresher when Live in Leipzig, has better vocalist (Maniac), Faster and far better quality. If u like more rough vocals buy live in leipzig. I'm not into Dead's vocals but what a great writer. The cuurren mayhem vocalist is attila chisar who was on des musteriis dom sathanas album, also reccommend
