Customer Reviews:
I remember when...............2007-03-09
Found an old notebook with Headbanger Ball playlists written in it. Jumped online and found D.A.D. again after all these years. I owned this cassette and loved it (actually still have the cassette in a crate, I just don't have anything that plays cassettes anymore). Distinctive vocals and sound you'll love it too.
Awesome album.......2007-02-10
If D:A:D had come out of Seattle, Atlanta or any other US city, this album would have gone platinum several times over. I count at least 6 songs that could have gone into the top 10. The band was big in Denmark throughout the 80s and 90s (during which time I went to high school and college in Denmark) and also made a name for themselves in Australia as far as I'm aware. For some unknown reason they never had a hit in the US though. Still makes me wonder. If you're into hard rock, then you ought to reward yourself and try this album. 18 years later (sigh) and it still rocks!
80's music.......2007-01-11
I only knew the song, "Sleeping My Day Away" before purchasing the cd. The rest of the cd is almost as good as this track.
One of the classic hard rock albums of all time.......2006-05-12
This album thrust DAD into the hard rock stratosphere. What happened after is a story for another review. However on the strenth of this disc they were on the crest of a wave.
Danish nutters to the core, this band stood outside the North American hard rock scene and it showed. While so many bands circa 1989 were overblown and in for a good time but didn't quite realise how silly they looked, DAD came across as knowing just how ridiculous the whole business was. I mean, this is a band that used to have stuntmen perform mock fights on stage in their early days and pay weird country tinged rock with various 'country' props on stage.
But to the heart of this album. The main theme here is driving simplicity. In fact their bass player famously used just two strings for much of the music. The riffs here are great and driving and the singles went straight into the charts in a number of countries. Tunes like Sleeping My Day Away capture youthful zest for partying all night brilliantly. ZCMI and Lords of the Atlas are whimsical with enough bite to keep your toe tapping.
Other gems would be Girl Nation, sort of the flagship of DAD's attempt at world domination. Ridiculous lyrics, crazy video and the whole thing just gels somehow. The heaviest track on the album, Ill Will is a right stomper, a couple of minutes of blazing and driving madness, the closest this album comes to outright metal.
The vocals of one Jesper Binzer sound suitably beer stained and he certainly attacks these songs with conviction. Production is good, as the record company had thrown a chunk of cash at this band in order to sign them and so didn't stint in this department.
This is an album that you can play from one end to the other, perfect for parties with your mates or chugging down the highway. It always brings a smile to my face whenever someone throws it on.
Good Rock!!.......2004-10-31
