Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Talented musicians, great album for any 80's metal fan .......2006-05-21

Though their name may not be as familiar to you as their contempories, top to bottom I would put this album up against many that the "hair metal" era had to offer. Truth is, Trixter was simply a victim of time. By the time their first album hit its stride and they were prepping for a second album, bands like Alice in Chains, Nirvana and Pearl Jam came on the scene, thereby ending the reign of 80's metal and ushering in the "grunge" era.

Now, I am definitely not comparing the talent in Trixter to that of the previously mentioned grunge bands (that would be a losing battle). However, if you listen to this album, you can tell that there is more here than as one reviewer stated, a "boy band with guitars". Peter Loran is a great vocalist, and he was accompanied by a pretty savvy guitarist/songwriter, as evidenced by tracks such as "One in a Million", "Give it to Me Good", "You'll Never See Me Crying" and "Surrender". In fact, unlike many hair metal albums of this period which contained two listenable songs and a ton of filler, songs 1-6 and the last three tracks on this album are definitely worth a listen.

In short, if you're a fan of 80's metal, you're going to like this album. Furthermore, $2-$3 used price on this disc is a steal!

3 out of 5 stars Nothing spectacular, but a great effort .......2005-11-10

It was the reviewer above who said it best where he said, "None of the songs are too heavy, too pop, or too offensive for the general audience. It sounds like a young group of kids got together and made a good, hard teen rock album." And that is very true. No songs stand out as particulary above average, but then too, no songs sound unlistenable either. Even looking at the back of the CD where the 4 members are posing, it doesn't seem that they took themselves to seriously either. But that not withstanding, guitarist Steve Brown, bassist PJ Farley, drummer Mark "Gus" Scott and lead vocalist Peter Loran guide us through 12 good rock songs that do just what they are supposed to do. And that is to be able to enjoy a decent CD.

The two opening songs on the CD, "Line of Fire," and "Heart of Steel," actually sound pretty much the same. Even though it seems they acheived stardom almost instantly, Trixter had been around for six years before they were able to release this, their debut CD. The video for "Give It To Me Good", reached #1 on MTV and Gold status was given to Trixter and this CD climbed to #28 on the Billboard Top 200. The longhair rockers had the world in their hand while touring behind bands such as Warrant and others of that time period. But like the majority of the hair bands of that era, their success was brief. Hear!, their sophmore effort failed to deliver a hit single, and again, like it happened to so many others, with the rise of grunge, bands like Trixter were the first to be cut from their recording contract. A final album full of covers was released in 1994. But it failed to make any real mark. Scott left the band during their last tour, and after a short period of time with another drummer the band decided to go their separate ways. Loran pursued a solo career while Farley and Brown came together to form "40 Ft. Ringo."

This CD is OK. Not horrible, but nothing that will stand the test of time. But I recommend it anyway. 3 out of 5 stars for a strong effort.

3 out of 5 stars A few good songs is all you get.......2005-04-02

I have to say, the first 2 songs on this disc really kick ass. It went down hill after that. The 2 ballads were ok as well, but some of the tracks on the 12 track debut from the NJ based band are weak. They would have been better off if some of these songs had a little more meaning. Looking back on this in 2005, it didn't stand the test of time.
Some of the guys in this band have been trying to get back in the business for the past 12 years with bands like Sugar Belly, Throwan Rocks and 40 foot Ringo and none have got any intrest from major lables. If these guys ever get the picture, they will realize that the only thing they will be known for is Trixter and this record in particular. It is time to give it up and maybe grab the opening slot on the "Rock Never Stops Tour". The little talent that they do have nobody cares about in 2005.

1 out of 5 stars The 'Velveeta' of hard rock/metal bands. Ultra cheesy!.......2005-03-15

80's hard rock/metal was divided into 2 camps. Great world class bands with balls to the wall talent and musicianship like Ozzy's 'Blizzard Of Ozz', Rainbow, Aerosmith, Judas Priest, Accept, Iron Maiden, Saxon, Loudness, Dokken, Kiss, The Scorpions, MSG (Michael Schenker Group), Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Ratt, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Thin Lizzy, Queensryche, Uriah Heep, etc. (just to name a few) belonging to one respected camp, and ultra-cheesy, diluted, gimmicky, no-talent 'flash in the pan' sham bands like Trixter or Warrant who sound like a bunch of limp-wristed adolescent metal wannabes!!! Bands like Trixter and Warrant are where metal 'went wrong' IMHO. And as if this incarnation of hard rock/metal wasn't bad enough, later on along comes 'Nu Metal' for chrissakes! Pass the barf bag! No...pass TWO!

1 out of 5 stars dokken6008, were you drunk when you wrote your review?.......2004-08-18

Obviously you still think they were hot but are too afraid to come out and say it. If you want to talk about talented young people, listen to Silverchair's "Frogstomp". Trixter represents everything that was wrong with music in the late '80s and are nothing but a boy band with guitars. This CD is garbage!!!
