Customer Reviews:
nevermore gives forevermore on this ep.......2005-11-25
i own several eps from different metal bands ,i can honestly say that this is my favorite one . for one because this ep by nevermore gives you that old school metal feeling after 2 or 3 times listening to this album. the first 4 songs will get you wishing this could have been a full length album. but anyway this album does seem short because it only has 5 songs, but it is well worth the buy. iam not going into detail about nevermores metal sound. just buy it and try it. you want be dissapointed if you like old school metal
Seismic Power Metal EP.......2005-08-15
A five-song EP totalling nearly a half hour of intense heavy metal from Nevermore, whose music rumbles with such deep, earthquake-like rhythms I've come to think of their brand as 'seismic power metal'. The band is extremely capable of softer and more melodic, often acoustic, songs as well, and that aspect is showcased on the disc as well, particularly in album closer 'The Sorrowed Man'. Opener 'Otimist Or Pessimist' is the EP's premier thrash assault, a high moment in the thrash genre. The multi-tempoed 'Matricide' is about humanity's slow killing of Mother Earth, with extremely powerful lyrics, emotional and powerful vocals and some of Nevermore's best pure power metal music. Title track "In Memory" is a slower doom metalish track; by the time you get this far you can see that the EP is doing a really remarkable job of showcasing the group's many different facets within a relatively short space. Their cover of Bauhaus's 'Silent Hedges/Double Dare' is very well done but not among the best tracks the band has put out. Again though, it highlights yet another aspect of what Nevermore can do. The closer 'Sorrowed Man' is a tender and beautiful soft metal track whose lyrics can be interpreted in either a highly spiritual and bright manner or in a fatalistic and dismal one; I choose the former, though based on some of the darker and bleaker lyrics on albums such as "Enemies Of Reality" I suspect it was probably intended in more of the latter tone (also as a possible counterbalance to the call in 'Optimist Or Pessimist' for, well, optimism). That's one of the great things about music though isn't it, that each listener gets his or her own interpretation out of a song? Either way you interpret 'Sorrowed Man', this is a great introduction to one of the world's premier metal bands.
\\m// ~ Amazing ~ \\m//.......2005-07-16
It's almost sad this cd only has 5 songs on it. Warrel Dane is just unbelievable. Jeff and Pat are legendary on this cd. I can't even believe I'm about to say this, but this has to be the only disc I own that actually brings tears to my eyes. Matricide in particular, and I'm not even a hippy or any goofy sh*t like that. No really though, it's a great disc with some sweet covers. Just a little short. Still gets 5 stars for the emotional drawing power, yet this album is still very forceful. It's all in the delivery, and few come close to Dane.
The Pessimist Spits these Pointed Words.......2004-02-21
Basically this ep is the ep before there was "Dreaming Neon Black" album came out. If you like Dreaming Neon Black, you will most likely like this EP. It does however have a heavier sound to it on the the first track, but thats short lived. 1. Optimist or Pessimist - A song about how the end of the world is coming and both the Optimist and Pessimist now it, yet they respond differently. . . . 90%2. Matricide - A song about how we are killing Mother Earth. . . . 95%3. In Memory - Speaking of falling back on memories when theres nothing left to hold on to. . . . 90% 4. Silent Hedges/Double Dare (2 Bauhaus Covers) - Cool covers. Interesting spin on the songs. . . . 90% 5. Sorrowed Man - A uplifting song. Very powerful soft song. . . . 95% If you like his EP, also check out: Nevermore- Dreaming Neon Black, Nevermore- Nevermore, Nevermore- Dead Heart in a Dead World, Nevermore- The Politics of Ecstasy.
Pretty good, not fantastic though........2003-11-21
This is a ep from nevermore in there earlier days, it has a bit more uplifting vibe to it (which i dont like), but it also has dark tracks like optimist or pessimist which are amazing. The solos on this cd are a variation of blazing speed, and ones that are more melodic, jeff loomis is amazing. good cd \m/
