Customer Reviews:
Awesome New Material.......2007-02-01
I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to this album. The only song I'd heard prior to purchasing it was Hollyweird and thought it was very catchy and fun to sing along with (though my singing voice isn't by any means top notch).THE WHOLE CD IS LIKE THAT!!!
Hollyweird is the ultimate recount of what it was like to be in Poison back in the day. The hair, the girls, the fame, the fights that Bret,Bobby,Rikki and C.C. have had.All of it.I really apperciated the extra details about one of my favorite bands but nostalgia isn't the only thing that this cd offers.
From start to finish it's a blast of much needed rock n' roll and Poison style fun.C.C. even sings three songs on it.Home,Emperors New Clothes and Livin In The Now.Probably the most memorable of the lot is C.C.'s comical version of Home(Bret also does a version of the song on Hollyweird). It's complete with a description of him getting "thrown out of first class cause I said we were the bomb".
All and all, this is a great cd to have if you love 80's metal. If you're on the fence about getting this, take it from me,GET IT!!! You'll be a lot happier once you listen to it.
Welcome To Hollyweird.......2006-09-13
"Hollyweird" is the first full length studio album from the original four members since "Flesh & Blood" nearly 12 years before. Sometime before the release of the album, the track `Rockstar' was made available for download, for free, to give fans a little preview. The track was good, but the one complaint everyone had was, poor production. And, it was a fair statement for that MP3. Unfortunately, it seems some people just assumed the entire album would be like that and as soon as it was released they started to whine, poor production. What's sad is that it is painfully obvious to those of us that listened to the album, that these naysayer's are just full of it. The production on the album is just fine.
The best tracks on the disc are `Hollyweird', a tribute to the wild town that Poison and so many other bands have called home over the years. `Squeezebox', Poison continues to show that they can bring something when covering a classic, this time a great tune from The Who. I don't agree with picking the song to be the single for the album, but the truth is it doesn't matter what they picked, radio wasn't going to touch Poison at this point. "Wishful Thinkin'" is actually a fun paced tune about the idea of going to Hollywood to be a rock star (basically the recurring theme throughout the album). It's a catchy fun tune with a sound that you don't quite expect from Poison. `Emperor's New Clothes' is the first track on the disc where they let CC sing and it's pretty good. Like his Samantha 7 project, and the track "Every Bone In Your Body" it's definitely got that great pop-punk influence of bands like Blink-182 and Green Day. Just a goofy fun quick paced tune. "Devil Woman" and "Wasteland" are both solid tracks that sound like something that could have come off of "Flesh & Blood" or "Open Up And Say Ahhh!"
"Livin' In The Now" is another CC led track, that has that same cool pop-punk feel to it. Poison has done a good allowing that sound in, without allowing it to take over what the band is and does.
"Stupid, Stoned & Dumb" is probably the best new song on the disc. It's got a great catchy sing along chorus that the crowd could be signing back in no time, even if they've never heard the song before.
The next two tracks are both called "Home". They do have different lyrics and one is with Bret singing and the other with CC. Bret's has a bit of name dropping, as he mentions `Dave from Drowning Pool is here". Just another sign of how cool Dave was hanging out with anyone and everyone, and it's all just good rock n roll! It's a quick paced tune, once again about the homelife in Hollywood. They really pound the images at you over and over throughout the disc. The version with CC singing isn't quite as good, the lyrics are just a tad too silly, but it is a fun fast paced tune.
Finally, ending it all with the song that started it all, "Rockstar". As I said earlier, the prerelease mp3 didn't sound great, the production was a little weak, but that shouldn't surprise anyone, since it was a free prerelease download. The actual track sounds great, solid production and is a great mocking commentary on what it is to be a big rock star. It's great to know that there are still some bands out there, that know how to laugh at it all.
Poison Rule.......2006-04-03

An embaressment ...and a cryin' shame!.......2005-11-14
I really loved me some POSION back in the day. I played my LOOKW HAT THE CAT DRAGGED in cassette so often I wore it out. That was my favorite POSION album and I will admit that from that album on POISON has had some hits and near misses...but for the most part remained good and sounding "Very POSION". Until this. The HOLLYWEIRD album is just bad. It's not "Very POSION", not very inspiring and not very good either. It's stale. You would think through the years POISON would grow and branch out...if anything they fell BACK a few steps with this album. This sounds like what a bands first album (or even demo tape) might sound like. It's just awesomely bad. Not a nice thing I can say about it. I played it a few times hoping it would grow on me or that I would at least find one stand-out track to take away from the experincee, but, nope. Sadly, that didn't happen.
I've seen POSION play a few times and it's always a sweet little piece of nostalgia. And they put on a good show. I will try not to hold this album against them.In fact, I will try to forget it ever happened.
Getting back to the way it was..........2005-05-28
Hollyweird is just about what I would expect from Poison...partying, girls, glam. That's what I listen to them for. I liked it the first time I heard it (unlike Native Tongue), and more each time. Get this one after you get the first two.
