Customer Reviews:
Great from start to finish .......2006-07-18
Occasionally a band comes along that is different from every band, and people fall in love with right away, and Nonpoint is one of those bands. With fast agressive vocals, backed by fast drums, and heavy bass and guitar riffs, nonpoint brings a new taste to metal that is both new, and refreshing. I assure you that if you like metal, you will like this band.
Proof not all nu-metal has to suck.......2006-05-16
In 2000, two Rage Against the Machine influenced nu-metal/rapcore bands formed: California's Papa Roach and Florida's. Both of these bands were well above the rest of the nu-metal pack, but only Papa Roach broke through to the mainstream (with the hit single "Last Resort"). It may be because they were overshadowed by bands like Papa Roach, or it may be because nu-metal would die off in a couple years, but Nonpoint have always been a very underrated and overlooked band (they've never quite gotten the credit they deserve). They have most of the qualities of a typical nu-metal band; but (thanks to frontman Elias Soriano's energetic, Zach de la Rocha-esque vocals and the guitarist's fiery riffs) Nonpoint's music captures an excitement that most bands lacked. Plus, on some songs (like "Levels"), Elias proves that he can actually sing. After the crunchy and intense album opener, "Mindtrip," Nonpoint's debut album, "Statement," continues with "Victim," which has some great, very catchy, headbanging riffs. The next two tracks have fiery, throbbing guitars. "What A Day" is the album's single, so it's a high point of the album, as is the memorable seventh track, "DoubleStakked," which features an irresistible sing-to-scream chorus. The last three highlights are "Orgullo" (which is sung entirely in Elias' native tongue, Spanish), the very heavy and explosive thrasher "Hive," and the album closing twelfth track ("Tribute," which is a full-fledged hip-hop song with wah-wah sound effects and a cameo by rapper Method Man). So, "Statement" is a very promising, good, and underrated debut which showed the world that not all nu-metal/rapcore has to be generic, hookless, uninspired, misogynist tripe. Nonpoint are a great young group which is more than worthy of being checked out by fans of bands like Rage Against The Machine, Deftones, and 311.
Make a Statement.......2005-09-08
I first heard this album about 3 years ago. A friend of mine gave my a copy. Ever since, I've been in love. If you think this CD is good...get Developement, it's even better.
Sorta like Slipknot with more talent and a better vocalist!!.......2005-02-27
Rapcore metal is not my style of music, unless it's Nonpoint! There is so much raw emotion and talent throughout the whole of the album that u can't help but love it. I'm sorry to any Slipknot fans reading this but I just don't get why people love them so. They are good but not as great as some may lead u to believe. It's offical though, Nonpoint has now made Rapcore not only listniable, but cool.
a straight through play-outstanding.......2005-02-11
heard the "mindtrip" demo back in 2k and realized the cd was coming out in oct 2000 so i jumped on it."statement" is easily one of my favorite "nu metal" cds, even as i roll my eyes at the cliche genre name."mindtrip" is,i think, a weak song on the whole."victim" explodes back with a nice two word chant."endure" has a catchy chorus and "back up" is a straightforward and scathing track."what a day" has been heard once and again, and still remains a fun listen to this day."misled" is a good song to show off elias' vocal ability."doublestakked" may take a listen or two, very long think its two songs ocmbined into one (hence the name)."orgullo"-crazy.never did hear a spanish song like that and i like every second."years" is another catchy song sounding like "endure"."hive" has a more punk vibe and refers to the "funky feeling" of "DS".the last two,"levels" and "tribute"-a remkae of some rap songs like "wooha" by busta rhymes i feel are quite bland, but the ten songs making up the former part of "statement" show the true ability of these four guys based out of miami, and that nu metal has some shining stars amidst the fray.
