Customer Reviews:
dont own it yet but sounds pretty good.......2006-06-25
even though i dont own this cd yet ive listened to alot of the songs, waffle, denial, bender, and rumble fish. i like how heavy they sound on this cd and the drumming is very good too. some of the chorus's with the exception of denial and waffle kind of annoy me for some reason but still good. ill write a full review when i listen to the whole cd
love the rest, but this is the best.......2006-01-09
I always knew Sevendust was around, but didn't give them the listen they deserved til about a year ago. Within one week of listening to them i owned every album. "Home" however, has to be their best work. "Animosity" is up there, "Seasons" though more focused on being melodic is still a good album, "Next" is a great comeback, and who can forget their self titled. I loved the first album, but it had noticable flaws. The sound was a bit muffled and a couple songs had some weak lyrics ("Whats that you put in your nose, can i have some? from "Wired"). It was as if Sevendust knew exactly what they needed to work on because the sound of this album is amazing and the lyrics are much more vivid.
1. Home 10/10 - The chugging intro riff of this is your first sign of a good sounding album. An underrated anthem, and the best part is when Lajon begins screaming "From Left to Right", you can picture the mosh pits.
2. Denial 11/10 - One of 7dust's well known songs, and for a good reason. This song hits you hard with the riffs and verses, then mellows a bit for the chorus, all together making one hell of a song
3. Headtrip 9/10 - I really like this song for some reason, not that its a bad song. its very unique and keeps things changing, mixing screams from both Morgan and Lajon.
4. Insecure - a little interlude, not much to rate here, though it sounds a bit like the intro to "Angel's Son" from "Animosity"
5. Reconnect - 9/10 - Another cool song that uses back and forth shouting from Lajon and Morgan, though i like headtrip better.
6. Waffle - 20/10 - What a song. It's damn near perfect and one of 7dust's best. The mellow intro fools people into thinking its a soft tune, then the chug of the riff rips through. The chorus of this song is classic and really addicting
7. Rumble Fish - 9/10 - A nice little mosh inducing song here, this one never lets up. highlight being the break when Lajon starts saying "Get Up" over the riff
8. Licking Cream - 8/10 - A bit softer, with a the help of Skunk Ansie singer Skin, this one is interesting. Skin really adds some flavor to the chorus, especially at the end of it when she hauntingly carries her voice along the main riff.
9. Grasp - 7/10 - A good song, not a huge fan of the chorus though. the lyrics are good, I just never really dug the way they're delivered.
10. Crumbled - 9/10 - This song is really aggressive. I like the "Wipe my face and get up again" chorus, really gives it a punishing attitude
11. Feel - 8/10 - I like how this song really mellows a bit. Lajon shows his vocal talents in this one
12. Grasshopper - another interlude
13. Bender - 9/10 - A very cool finish to the album, with the help of Chino from the Deftones. Chino's vocals really mix in well with Lajon's as this song completes a hell of an album.
In my opinion, each 7dust album is special in its own way. S/T was incredibly aggressive, "Animosity" showed power and melody, "Seasons" shows full melody, and "Next" proves that 7dust can still be heavy, but "Home" is their defining album so far. It's really the best starting point, since you can go both forward and backward in their discography with a clear idea of what this band will give you. And they still got it live as well, i highly recommend seeing these guys live, its well worth it.
will never get old.......2006-01-06
I was about 15 when I first heard "Denial" on the radio and had to go out and check out this cd. I've listened to it constantly for the past 6 years and I've never gotten tired of it. When you think you've heard enough, another song just jumps out at you. Lajon has one of the best metal voices in my opinion, especially on this cd (where he screams more than most other 7dust cd's). Morgan has one of the best styles of drumming i've ever heard. Clint and John, the guitarists, have a patented sound which is brought to every song. I will always be dissappointed that there aren't many diverse guitar parts, such as solos, but that really isn't Sevendust's style.
Although this is a very heavy CD, Sevendust keeps melodic grooves throughout that keep the listener's attention. If its the melodies your looking for, buy ANIMOSITY. If its the heavy hitting sound, listen to their self-titled debut or check out their newest release NEXT(although recorded with a different guitarist, Sonny Mayo). If its a combination of all the highlights of 7dust's sound, Home is the album you wanna check out. It's a cd any metal/hard rock fan can appreciate.
... so wrong ..........2005-10-30
It's sad so few people see this album as the gem it is... In my opinion, tied with Animosity as Sevendust's best... why? First off, the guitar work by Clint and John is flat-out amazing. There is so much melody and harmonizing to be found, but it seems most can't look past the shear aggression to find it! Morgan's drumming? I think he really shined on this album... the complexity and precision is shocking. Then of course, there's Lajon's deep, passionate singing... angry? you bet! But still done with talent, not mindless screaming.
I just can't believe the reviews this album seems to get! I bought this CD on release day... and still listen to it! How many years is that? There's just something here, hidden... It's like the entire band had E.S.P. when making this one... They're so tight and together, each song is like an extension of the last.. I'll admit, I really don't like the first song "Home" at all... but every other song? I know like the back of my hand! I'm not saying to buy this album for 17 bucks... haha.. I'm not saying to even buy the album at all.. Just give some of the songs a chance... they'll definitely grow on you. You might be surprised... there's something really good here..
Another great album!.......2005-10-21
Sevendust's second album is definately their worst album to date. I don't say that meaning it's a bad thing, this album is awesome, it's just not as awesome as the others! If that isn't consistant then I don't know what is! This album has some crunching guitars and it has some great songs. Home, Denial, and Crumpled are my personal favorites but there are alot of great songs to bang your head to (or mosh if you prefer!). A few of the songs on this album sound a little rushed and choppy like they were just thrown together to get the album out but not many. Most bands have a case of the sophmore slumps where they put out a second album and it doesn't compare to their first and this is Sevendusts. Considering it's their worst album and it would still shine against any other band in this genre just goes to show how legendary this band is. The only reason I give this album four stars and not five isn't really based on this individual album, it based on this album compared to all their others! Buy it, Love it, It's sevendust you know what to expect! They never let their fans down, which is a relief!
