Had heard him in all the other bands but really never knew him.... This is all the songs I loved to here from those bands... I know why now.. He is Great!

4 out of 5 stars One of the Greatest Metal Vocalists from One of Metal's Greatest Bands.......2006-09-13

16 Beastly Tracks from One of Metal's greatest bands with one of Metal's renowned vocalists, Ronnie James Dio. All of Dio's very beast including the classics "Holy Diver" & "Rainbow in the Dark" "We Rock" "the Last in Line" "Rock 'n' Roll Children" & many more monster tracks to bang your head to. The 1980s was the golden age of heavy metal with other great bands like Motley Crue, Poison, Metallica, Iron Maiden & Whitesnake & Dio was not just a great band, but a pioneer of 80s heavy metal & Ronnie James Dio was also the creator of the devil horn hand gesture that became a part of the metal world. If you like heavy metal then buy the Very Beast of Dio, buy it now or you'll be "THE LAST IN LINE"

5 out of 5 stars This is the BEAST OF DIO!!.......2006-08-25

This is a great collection of Ronnies songs, they are totally awesome. This is a must have in your cd rack full of 80's masterpieces of ROCK!! Highlights here are 'Rainbow In The Dark' and 'Rock N Roll Children' but of coarse theres many many more. Just about every song on here is great and I highly recommend this awesome album.

5 out of 5 stars RJD.......2006-05-20

Dio is an excellent band. Holy Diver is my favorite song of all time. It's got an awesome rift and Ronnie James vocals fit perfect with the song. I also think that Dream Evil, Last in Line, Rock'n'Roll Children, and Could'a'Been a Dreamer are great songs. There isn't a song on this album that you should not have in your collection if you are in to hair metal and hard rock.

4 out of 5 stars Shame On the Knight!.......2006-03-16

NOBODY, but NOBODY in heavy metal (Robert Plant and Geddy Lee included) has been blessed with a set of pipes as has the legendary Ronnie James Dio.

This album is a "best of" (or, rather, "beast of" -- get it?) compilation, which I mainly bought to listen to on trips. It's pretty much standard fare, no surprises. Aside from stadium rousers like "Stand Up and Shout," "The King of Rock and Roll," "Holy Diver" and such, there are some truly inspiring battle hymns, like "Sacred Heart" (which I sing falsetto a la Vienna Boys Choir to in the shower) and "I Could Have Been a Dreamer."

Also his later stuff like "Strange Highways" and "Lock Up the Wolves" round out this beastly disc, showing a heavier side, which draws from newer metal like Slayer and Pantera in its chordal structuring.

Yet, the ONE song that is obligatory for any Dio collection is absent, Dio's dark dirge "Shame On the Night." That would be like a Led Zeppelin "best of" without "Stairway to Heaven."

Perhaps that is because Dio is not only a vocal legend, but also a keen marketer of his own persona: He wants the buyer also to fork over DPs for either the "Holy Diver" CD or "Anthology, Volume I."

In your own words, o knight of darkness and sorceror of sin, "shame, shame on you!"
