5 out of 5 stars BY IT! NOW! I dare you!.......2006-11-05

This album is probably one of the more important metal releases. Ever. It;s not as pivotal as Black Sabbath, Kill 'Em All, Ride The Lightning, Master of Puppets, Peace Sells, Reign in (fake)Blood, Welcome to Hell, or Ace of Spades. However, it is better than most of the above. And it's almost as pivotal. See, this was the first groove metal album, and I'ma gonna go out on a limb here and say this is the best metal album of the 90's, calling RATM hard rock. See, if you like a good riff, this is it. The best riffing album ever. And if you liked Tony Iommi's guitar style, but wished he'd gone even crazier, this is it. Aside from Tom Morello, Dimebag has the most unique guitar style (and coolest name), period. And it's cool. This album is not recommended for people who can't deal with high-pitched vocals, though. They might be more intrested in the follow up, Vulgar Display of Power, which is just that. Anyhow...great songs about. Everything on here is solid, but Cowboys From Hell, Shattered (highest note ever!), Heresy, Message in Blood, The Art of Shredding (which does not have a shred solo), The Sleep, Medicine Man, Psycho Holiday, and the nice ballad Cemetary Gates are the best. Although that only leaves 2 tracks to be considered "filler." And they're both solid bits of thrash/groove metal. Through and through, this album is great. It's fast and heavy, except for 2 slowdowns, and the riffing is awesome. The lyrics are cool and dark, but without either going all emo on us, or being stupid pointlessly violent Slayer-esque stuff...a unique and brilliant album. Buy it. Or don't. But before making up your mind, listen to Cowboys From Hell. Then buy it.

5 out of 5 stars I cant say this is better then Vulgar display of power...But I will!.......2006-07-26

I got this recently and actually I thought it deserved 5 stars!A very good album which has some of there best songs.
1. Cowboys From Hell:This song is very bland. Not many times it changes and mostly from beginning to the end Phil is screaming like AC/DC with some growls and starts with a pick sliding on the guitar when some bass slashes on and slashes on again untill we hear what sounds like water spraying and then in comes the heavy, fast guitar and then stops to do the riff without th buzz and then we hear "OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!COME ON!" it leads to "OVERLASTIN' AS WE STAND TALL!NO ROCKIN' CAUSE I SAID UH!SHOUT DOWN!ITS TOO LOUD NO LOOK AND YOU CANT TURN BACK!!" and then he growls "YOU SEE US COMING AT YOU ALLTOGETHER RUN FOR COVER!We're taking over this town" a definate good song.Heavy and sounds like it was recorded in 1977.10/10
2. Primal Concrete Sledge:very heavy with fast riffs starting it and sludge riffs flying everywhere at once and shouts and screams.Good and a huge rocker!10/10
3. Psycho Holiday:Just say that this is psycho and that it is a holiday and pretty much yeah it is.10/10
4. Heresy:Great heavy song with screeching riffs and a great solo.
5. Cemetery Gates:Starts acoustic and then incomes the famous heavy riff and then acoustic comes and great calm vocals of "Reverend Reverend I feel it crawling in the night" and "Sometimes when I'm alone" this song is more calm but the best song because of its shouting chorus "WELL I GUESS YOU TOOK MY YOUTH AND GAVE IT ALL AWAY! IT WAS THE START OF A NEW FRONT DOOR BEFORE THE MEMORY!AND WHEN SHE DIED!I COULDNT CRY I PUSHED MYSELF OUTDOOR!!!!YOU LEFT ME!IF YOU PLEASE!ALL ALONE AND THE MEMORY SELLS IT APAaart!"The way we were...I will unlock my door. And pass the cemetary gates."Great song.11/10
6. Domination:A return to heaviness with growls and screams!10/10
7. Shattered:Good but very heavy.10/10
8. Clash With Reality:Nice Clash.10/10
9. Medicine Man:Flashback to metallica.12/10
10. Message In Blood:WOW!10/10
11. The Sleep:The name says it all.
12. The Art Of Shredding:Same here.Teaches you how to SHRED!
Great album.

5 out of 5 stars Great 90s Thrash.......2006-06-15

This is more "groove" but there is enough thrash metal in here. Pantera is one of the greatest metal bands in the 1990s and one of the most well known in rock . these guys really can rock hard!

2 out of 5 stars Not for everyone........2006-05-02

While i am sure that real metalheads dig this album, I found it pretty lame. There is no creativity in the songwritting, the production is not happening, and the music isn't hard enough.
