-thumbs up-.......2007-02-22
I like Korn, but it all sounds the same after a couple of songs. To listen to one song here and there is nice, but to listen to a whole album in one sitting bores the hell out of me.
Let's try something.........2006-09-17
Let's forget for a second that you saw them a million times on MTV. Forget that they "represent the birth of nu metal" and, with it, all that's wrong with society in this day and time. Forget how it's apparently cool to hate on popular bands that make it big time.
The men of the KoRn have an ability to create a wall of sound kind of effect. 7-string Ibanez guitars, and a loud bass that makes for a secondary drum kit sometimes. And who could forget the uber catchy, constantly changing, tribal drumming by David.
Try to *consciously* listen to any song in this album, and pay attention to what they do in the background. The small sounds, the subtle strumming here, a loud bass line there.. the constant change in rhythm. The breakdowns (yes, breakdowns, emo idiots).
KoRn are as experimental and creative as they get.
They may not be the most talented band in the universe, but they obviously put effort into not sounding repetitive, or boring the listener, and I appreciate that.
Every song in the album is worth a listen, but highlights include "Freak on a leash" (duh), "Seed", "Got the life", and the awesome "Reclaim my place".
Oh, and another thing. Stop comparing them to Megadeth, or Metallica, or any other metal band of their time. They've never tried to sound like them, and that's quite obvious.
Awesome........2006-08-27
Fun. Catchy. Angst-y. Korn.
Given the choice between Korn and some no-name death metal band, I'll take Korn any day of the week. They integrate a little thing called MELODY into their music, as opposed to "scary" grunts and silly lyrics. Davis & Co. know how to construct a groovin' tune, which is why Korn became so popular. Sometimes, the masses DO get it right.
I've moved way beyond the 14-year-old obsession of that "poser" nonsense years ago. If you have an open mind, give Follow The Leader a shot. Leave discussions on what constitutes as "REEL MUZIK" to the kiddies.
The Joey..........2006-08-24
Korn didn't save metal, it just made nu-metal mainstream (Biohazard created nu-metal). Metal isn't all obnoxious screaming, constant double bass, and repetative riffs. If you actually listened to Atheist, late-Death, and countless other metal bands, you'll learn that they take metal to new heights and sound very unique. However, Korn and the rest of the nu-metal heap sound exactly the same. Before you say "real metal" is uncreative, do your homework, you idiot.
Now to this album, you've heard one Korn album, you've heard them all.
Go listen to some Atheist, Meshuggah, Morbid Angel, and Nile instead.
Oh yeah, don't listen to that dumb kid above me, he clearly doesn't know anything about metal.
More of the same. (Nu-Metal).......2006-08-15
Even when I was entering my teen years, this wasnt appealing. Its too slow, forced anger, and no damn riffs?!
