Customer Reviews:
Hoping to find this CD SOON!.......2004-01-15
OK- I am the girl that One Fine Day was written about by Tom McCuin. Tom's a great guy, a great friend and a great musician! I still live in So. Fla. but hope to find this CD for sale online soon! I hope to see Hiring Fair soon in my next trip through Boston
P.S. For the record, I had a boyfriend and that's why I didn't go out with Tom (just ask him!)
buy this CD, you won't be disappointed!.......2000-07-12
"Breakfast Anyone?" is a wonderful CD, anyone who's had a chance to experience this band live will want to buy the CD to take the experience home with them. the songs on this disc come from many experiences of the band members, and some are traditional or covers of favorites. the only way to do this justice is song by song i feel... the adventure starts out with "Danny and Mary" the story of two people far from home who find each other in boston and fall in love. then we move onto "Sad little smile" story of love found in an airport, lasting a wonderful night, and thencoming back to haunt you a few years later.... track 3, "nothing stays the same" is a slow balad with some awesome whistle work, and lyrics that'll bring ya to tears.... "Annie Brown" tells the story of two lovers, and a jealous third who kills Annie's love. on his death, Annie takes her own life, and nature has her revenge on the killer. "on stormy nights, in taverns dim, the sailors often claim, nor'easters rouse the spirits, and the wind cries Annie's name" this track features some great electric guitar work by Steven Moore. "three long weeks in hell" tells the story of immigrants fleeing to America on the "coffin ships" during the famine. in "step it out mary" Hiring Fair takes the traditional folk song and turns it up to 11 "young ned of the hill" is a rebel tune that'll get your blood going, if you have a picture of Oliver Cromwell on your nightstand, you may not like this song, the rebels among you will love it though. "Adirondack Town" comes from Brenda Washburn's experiences coming from a small factory town, how the neighbors get along and the living is good, until the factories close up and people's livelihoods are gone. "Throughout the Years" is about the love between friends, do you have a friend you've known since grammar school but have grown apart over the years? this song is for you. "Living in America" is a cover of the song by Black 47, Larry Kirwin of B47 has given this one his blessing and has even had Brenda come up on stage during Black 47 shows and do the song with him. "Summer in Dublin" is a Liam Reilly cover, sometimes you have to get away from the hustle and bustle... but it's nice to know when you come back, there will still be people there for you. ok, this next song.... every musician, or poet has written something to try and win over some woman who wasn't interested, "One Fine Day" is this song for Tom McCuin. turns out he was rather smitten with a law student who wanted nothing to do with him, so he got real drunk and wrote this in one night. it's a great song, even though he didn't get the girl, guess there's no accounting for taste ;) "Say Goodbye" is an interesting followup to one fine day, in this one our intrepid lovers have realised that maybe they weren't meant for one another. "...no use pretending that it's something precious dying..." Luka Bloom fans will recognize the next track "Couldn't Have Come at a Better Time" and the final song on the disc will be somewhat familiar to Saw Doctors fans, "Uesta Love Her/All Over Now" not only features Steven Moore's great guitar work, but Steve shares the vocal chores with McCuin and the result is a nice arrangement. buy this CD! if you don't like it, email me at inerlogic@your-house.com and tell me i'm full of BS... but this is a great album...
