Customer Reviews:
Reverent and traditional.......2006-05-09
The trio here give faithful and traditional turns on Irish folk music. There are a few instrumental sections but most are vocal pieces. It's all done pretty well and the material is well chosen. So 4 stars for the music and one star for the liner notes, which are printed way too small. If you'got so much to say that the liner botes are this tiny, get someone to edit it and print it at a level that people can actually read it.
Excellent renditions of traditional Irish music........1999-05-27
This album is an awesome portrayel of Irish lore and lifestyle. Bold, brash and bawdy to loving, losing and living. It says it all. A true tribute to the Irish.
Terrific Well Performed Celtic Music.......1999-04-12
I am again listening to Kilkelly for probably the 100th time in as many weeks. It is hard to describe this CD, it has everything from plantive melodies like Kilkelly and Peter Pan and Me to Irish Jigs; Maids of Selma and Dancing Tables. I think my favorite piece is The Green Fields of America especially The Night That Paddy Murphy Died and The Likeable Lovable Leitram Lad. I find it difficult not to sing and dance along with the music it so captivating.
Very good, unique Irish music album.......1999-02-09
I consider this album worthwhile just for the very sensitive rendition of the song Kilkelly; but the centerpiece of the album is the ``operetta'' "The Green Fields of America", combining songs and tunes into a tapestry that details the whole story of Irish imigration to America. Also notable is the song "Peter Pan and Me", about the loss of innocence during the troubles. The two tune sets are fun and are played with spirit, but they're not the focus of the album. This isn't a cd I listen to often, but it's one that always affects me when I do pull it out.
