Customer Reviews:
One of the most beautiful CDs I have heard.......2001-10-29
This CD contains some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard. The melodies are haunting and linger in your mind long after the CD is over; the accompanying instrumentation hits just the right balance to Lynn Morrison's soothing voice. Prospective buyers should not be put off by the "Lullabies" part of the album title; although the songs are indeed soothing and would be good for putting babies to sleep, this is music for careful, daytime listening as well. A nice surprise in the CD is the liner notes, which include detailed descriptions of the stories and legends underlying these lullabies, such as the plea of a ghost of a dead mother seeking help for her daughters who were being mistreated by their new stepmother, a song by a mermaid who is betrayed by the husband for whom she gave up the ocean, and the story of 'Dream Angus,' the dream-seller who finally found the beautiful maiden of his own dreams. My favorite tracks were #1 (absolutely hauntingly beautiful; I think I could listen to it forever without getting tired of it), 2, and 4. This last one, called "Hush, hush" sounded familiar to me, and I finally recognized the tune as having been featured in the "Local Hero" soundtrack by Mark Knopfler. I recommend this CD highly, and I think any fan of New Age or Celtic music would count this as one of his or her favorites.
Excellent cd.......2001-09-12
This CD is always a joy to listen to. All the songs are hauntingly beautiful, and are perfect for listening to during a windy winter night, or just for relaxation. If you like Enya of Loreena McKennitt, you will like Lynn Morrison. the layers of sound wrap you up in a cozy blanket. Although this cd is relaxing, it is NOT easy listening. listen for the keening pipes and the unique Celtic instruments used.Tracks 4, 3, and 7 are excellent.
