Customer Reviews:
First rate music by a deserves-to-be-discovered singer-songwriter-musician........2006-10-30
If this CD were by a well-known artist such as Carly Simon, it would hit the charts. Robin Morning's lyrics, tunes and music - vocal and guitar - deserve to be discovered. There is a quality of folk pop music in each of the numbers on her Cobalt Blue CD that resonates and lingers, leaving you unable to stop singing to yourself. Her songs are stories and her stories are told in powerful poetry - some gentle, sweet, some strong and poignant. If you've ever taken a road trip to the mountains; known the pain of a divorce or enjoyed a morning after a rain, she will sing to you. If you know a very good man who's not quite perfect, she'll laugh with you. If you've loved and lost someone special, Robin will cry with you but leave you glowing. Treat yourself to some fresh original music.
Warm and insightful.......2001-06-05
Robin Morning's Cobalt Blue CD is a warm and insightful look at life through wonderfully arranged and catchy tunes. We've seen Robin's band play locally in the San Diego area, and these same songs have been presented in a more traditional folk style. For the CD though, Robin brought in some of the best jazz and acoustic musicians in San Diego, giving the tunes a more polished sound and jazz flavored arrangements. The result is terrific.
Some notes on my favorite cuts:
Cobalt Blue: A song about courage in the face of adversity (in this case, cancer), it presents the uplifting message through symbolism and a flowing arrangement. A stunningly lovely clarinet weaves in and out throughout the song.
The Jasmine Prayer: A beautiful song about love, arranged as an interwoven vocal tapestry between the man and woman, with a lovely backdrop of the jasmine's creamy, sweet scent. A soulful harmonica adds to the atmosphere and really shines.
Hey Daffodil: A very upbeat celebration of spring. Again, great harmonica. And great imagery in the lyrics.
Very Good Man: A clever take on a woman's perspective in a relationship where the guy is a good person, but not sensitive or well matched to the woman's needs. Nice upbeat tune, with clever vocalizations.
